I have tried tirelessly and without success to convince all the journalists I know -- and then some -- to STOP this lame-ass habit because, as the first commenter says, it's been going on quite awhile. It's where the power of the Right has lived; Greenwald finally brought it to a front page.

NO ONE in five years has even attempted to define "insurgents vs. terrorists." No one. I've done media/Web searches ad nausea, and the only vernacular confusion has been whether or not to call what's going on over there a "civil war." Yet, when Saddam's statue fell, there was clarity that there might be a few groups of insurgents to surface; how long, no one knew.

How incredibly poor the media are in this regard. It shows a complete and continued lack of gullibility if not intellectual curiosity. Not sure which one's worse.

Indeed, he did not. I just watched a youtube of a lecture-length video of Murray Rothbard speaking on The Death of Communism/Socialism early in the Bush I administration. He covers the reasons for the fall of the soviets and made a few predictions on what the military-industrial complex would do next.

It is long, 45 minutes, but amazing. I was a reader of the RRR back when Rothbard was giving Reagan hell, and I recall the predictions of the weakness of the soviets even as the CIA continued to claim they were damn neat invincible. It is an educational 45 minutes.
