"Against"
...but not a word about "for."
You can be against anything and everything, but until you explicitly come out and say what you are 'for,' you really don't stand for anything. And that is the problem with liberal bloggers, and the problem with liberals and Democrats in general these days: just what are they for?

Nerdnam:
How about this? Getting the hell out of Iraq. Rebuilding our alliances around the world. Providing health care for everyone in the country. Developing real, sustainable renewable energy sources. Federally funding stem cell research. Enforcing existing environmental laws. Those are off the top of my head. I'm sure others will chime in. BTW, do you work for Time or CNN or Fox? Because yours is the kind of bullshit they spout off.

Truth in Labeling
The truly Goebbels-like use of the words "left", "leftist" and "liberal" by those who support the radical agenda being carried out today by self-proclaimed conservatives is an astounding phenomenon which is mysteriously both relied upon and unexamined by the media. My own, quite ordinary, circumstance of being a police officer with three brothers who served in the military would, twenty years ago, have suggested to a casual observer that we were probably conservatives. No more. With our unified opposition to the war in Iraq and our desire to see the Constitution protected, we are now "leftists" who are to be reviled by those whose idea of intellectual rigor is to listen to Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity hurl insults. I truly feel like one of Lord Cornwallis' troops at Yorktown marching away to the strains of "The World Turned Upside Down".

What passes for "liberal" anymore
seems to boil down to:
a person who belives he has a right to know what his or her government is up to, and that those in power should be held accountable for their (mis)actions.
That is what is considered "radical," "fringe," and "Liberal moonbat" anymore.

double standards and "context"
Well, you've heard by now that Senate leader Harry Reid insulted one of this country's brightest military minds, Marine Corps General Peter Pace -- calling him "incompetent." Let me take a few moments to put this in context.
The problem with Fred Thompson’s “context” is that he dismisses Reid and those who don’t think Pace did a good job as “fringe elements” – while completely ignoring that Bush fired the oh-so-competent Peter Pace. If Reid had called on Bush to fire him, that would be "fringe" but if Bush fires him, no big deal.
If Pace did such a good job, where is the right-wing uproar over Bush firing him? (The argument that Bush didn’t want a confrontation with Congress doesn’t fly since he refuses to fire an even more controversial Gonzalez.)
Once again, it’s the double standard on display. Conservatives (e.g. John McCain) are free to criticize our military and are not condemned when they do so. However, if a Democrat does it, it verges on treason.
I’m pretty sure Glenn will deal with this double standard in his new book, since it certainly fits in with its main topic.

Republicans could be for any of those things, even health care for everyone.
The problem is that if liberal bloggers are only AGAINST things, then they are wide open to the charge that they could be FOR those same things, if the 'right' president had done them. Would the 'left' blogosphere be against the invasion of Iraq and torture of detainees if Al Gore had done these things instead of George Bush? It's not at all clear to me that they would be. The reason it is not clear is because most liberal bloggers (including Greenwald) pretty much refuse to discuss fundamental beliefs and instead indulge mostly in attacking who isn't one of them.

Link to speech not working?
I am getting a page not found on your link to Digby's speech.

Bad 70s music video
GAWD it was bad. Anyway, it featured these women dressed as "Indian Princesses", in what were basically bikini-top-and-miniskirt combos with like eighteen-inch-long fringe dangling off them. There was more fringe than costume! Anyway, I don't know why that comes to mind just now, but it does.

Wow! If Glenn thinks Digby is the best blogger....
I thought he was the best. His is quite a recommendation, indeed. And a great speech by her. I'll certainly add her to my required reading.

And linky to digby speech not work.

far away?
A minor point, to be sure, but I don't find blogs to be "far away" at all. I have to go out to the end of my driveway to pick up my newspaper, but I can can read all the blogs I want in the comfort of my own living room without even having to put on my bathrobe.
I think you probably meant "far and away."

Could you possibly be more lame?
