Those who think that Bush and his movement can be explained away with trite moralistic or conspiratorial slogans share the same mentality that has driven his presidency.
  • The road to hell is paved with good intentions

"The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

A friend once told me that's a ridiculous statement because of course good intentions are good - you don't want to get rid of good intentions. I responded that you can have all the good intentions you want, but the only thing that counts are your actions. If good intentions lead to good actions, good outcomes then fine, otherwise they are useless, irrelevant, and only good for apologists.

This applies to Bush in spades. What his intentions are, are irrelevant. What is relevant are his actions which demonstrate the shallowest of character with arrogance and ignorance in equal measure. In order to save the world he'd destroy it, in order to promote peace he'd start wars willy nilly. A framework based on a comic book level understanding of the world and the people in it only demonstrates to me a deep disregard and alienation from basic tenets of humanity.
