It's about illuminating the dangers of how the Democratic Party--and especially Democratic Presidential candidates--are falling into the same trap today. I wouldn't keep brining it up if not for its vital importance as a lesson for today.
I had to "explain" to a DCCC fundraiser today that not all Democrats meet my approval, and that this election cycle, I'm not going to let the DCCC decide who is "Democratic" enough to get my money. I'm going to be very careful as to which of them deserves support. He said something about getting electing Democrats and getting a Democratic Congress, blah-blah-blah, and I told him that's not what is important to me; what is important is growing a spine and standing up to the machine ... for as long as it takes to get this country back.
Cheers,
"Clue for eedjits like Jeremy..."
Arne, I think Jeremys' post was pure snark. The overly formal and polite style was the clue for me.
I've always looked forward to reading your posts, as you are often among the most wicked of snark-masters here. And when your own snark-scope fails to pick up snark, that signals a significant event for me.
The rightwing, up til now, almost could not be parodied. (I've read that a sizeable percentage of Colbert Report fans are in fact among the rightwing nuttingensia, not because they think he's so fucking funny and they have an ability to laugh at themselves -- quite the opposite, rather -- but because they can't tell it's satire. They think he's real.) Apparently Jeremys hit that shrinking razor-thin boundary between authentic rightwing nuttia and satire of same. Well, it almost could not be parodied. Until now.
What your snark-scope signaled to me was that it's absolute now. The rightwing cannot be parodied. Not without a significant likelyhood of satire necessarily becoming indistinguishable from the object of scorn.
I think parody and satire function like a vaccine: a dose of weakened pathogens protects the body politic from the live disease.
My theory is the vaccine of satire had to be continually strengthened to combat the increasingly and virulently absurd reality of the disease. Eventually, full-strength germs used to innoculate become indistinguishable from those causing the disease.
Evidence: Another astute poster here also missed Jeremys snark. It goes to show how advanced the disease of wingnuttia has progressed -- even some of our most experienced practitioners are now sometimes unable to make an accurate diagnosis.

Yes, infinitesimally small.
"Arne, I still think you'd make a fair unit of measurement for some aspects of the blogosphere, just not dickosity. It's probably a unitless ratio in any event.
-- Holly McLachlan"
"shooter024" mistakes "infinitesimal" for "unitless" (or "dimensionless"). They are not the same. But thanks for playing, "shooter0.000000000000000000000000...1for2".
Cheers,
Sure sounds like USSR style justice to me, but apparently Dems are down with it.
One hopes it's the American people, Independents, Greens Libertarians, Democrats and former Republicans that "are down" with putting the GOP down for good. Tough luck for you. It's a hardball game, man. There is no crying in baseball.

I'll support anyone who will "purge"* the government of them.
*Cue Shooter and his Stalin references.
From shooter242:
Any agency can request a special prosecutor for any reason.
* The investigation doesn't require resolution of the stated reason for requesting a special prosecutor.
* Any conflicting statements by objects of special prosecutor result in multi-year prison terms.
What precisely this has to do with either Libby or matters at hand, I've no idea.
Does that about sum it up?
Not in the slightest.
Sure sounds like USSR style justice to me, but apparently Dems are down with it. I'll be encouraging Republicans to decide who among Dems "deserves" to be investigated.
You really need to study history, both recent and distant, a bit better, kiddo. You're making even less sense than usual.
So let's see if I have the new standard straight....
* Any agency can request a special prosecutor for any reason.
<*BZZZT!*> Wrong. CIA didn't request a special prosecutor.
* The investigation doesn't require resolution of the stated reason for requesting a special prosecutor.
<*BZZZT!*> Wrong. Not all investigations "require resolution". But be that as it may, I believe that Fitzgerald did/does have to put together a report in the end.
* Any conflicting statements by objects of special prosecutor result in multi-year prison terms.
<*BRRIIINNGG!*> Right. You lie about material facts under oath, and obstruct justice, and you're facing jail time.
Does that about sum it up?
I guess so. I'll accede if you choose the new nom de plume "shooter143". Fair 'nuff?
Cheers,

Yes, to me too. Dunno what's the matter with me. Guess it means we're out on very thin ice. Speaking of losing track of reality, check out the latest post on my blog, or just go here:

In any case, guess I should have took the Snark-O-Meter in for a tune-up along with my regulator....

Were it not for the Lefty Blogosphere
..nobody would read Cohen at all.
and
...hardly anybody even knows who he is.
C'mon, Ché, you know that cannot be true. Cohen is published in the Washington Post, one of the most influential papers in the country, with a circulation of five million newspapers per week and godknows how many more who read it online.
Cohen gets read. By lots and lots of people. And nobody needs to know who he is -- he is disseminating his Versailles lickspittle in a paper that is very well known, even famous, around the world.
His piece is indeed dishonest bullshit, but please take it seriously that his dishonest bullshit is read by many.
