It sounds like Gore's book, only more focused and better written.
I am looking forward to reading your new book, which I just preoredered.
Just wanted to point out that the image in your article is linked to a jpg and does not lead to the amazon webpage for ordering the book. It can a bit confusing, perhaps it's better to use the same link as the in the side bar.
Congratulations and best wishes for the success of your book.
Yours truly,
Otherwise, What the hell?
... wouldn't miss it.
It took me to John Keats ENDYMION, Book 11. I felt like expressing a few of his thoughts...
150---...That he will seize on trickling honey-combs--
Alas, he finds them dry; and then he foams,
And onward to another city he speeds.
But this is human life" the war, the deeds,
The disappointments, the anxiety,
Imagination's struggles, far and nigh,
All human' bearing in themselves this good,
That they are still in the air, the subtle food,
To make us feel existence, and to show
How quiet death is. Where is men grow,
160---...Whether in weeds or flowers; but for me,
There is no depth to strike in. I can see
Naught earthly worth my compassing; so stand
Upon a misty, jutting head of land--
170---...Of heaven! O Cynthia, ten times bright and fair!
From thy blue throne, now filling the air,
ETC., It is worth a read too.
Thanks.
That read about the anticipated new book read read like a gentle stream. Dazzling. Clear. Crisp. Beautiful.
The lifeblood of the Manicheans is the peoples' fear and ignorance, so they continue to frighten and lie to them, using the MSM as their willing tools.
Hopefully your book will be discussed widely in the MSM.
I'm looking forward to reading A Tragic Legacy (and putting it on my b/day wishlist.)
It's remarkable how often Bush has been firewalled (and the Executive overall) protected from being exposed as the source of some of the most slimy, vicious and venal attacks in modern memory. Whether the excuse is Executive privilege or the coverup achieved via the public record being airbrushed by widespread clasification, the assault on the free flow of information literally belonging to the people is a historical low point for democracy.
I'm stunned at how media, opposition and all the other innoculants against tyranny have watched this administration lock up information, cynically, for "security" but actually for no reason other than to hide a paper trail, with selective declassiication to defang dissent and to persecute critics.
An often cited strategy or image by the hard right and friends is one of the President, at all costs, being kept "above the fray": it smacks of someone in a pristine white suit and cowboy hat repeatedly revealed to be a petty, venal, vicious man when crossed, but continually held up to an increasingly disbelieving public as a divine appointment to the White House.
I'm looking forward to reading A Tragic Legacy: whether we like it or not, it's going to be ours, too, for decades to come.
You thrust toes honest words into the heart. It was sad to admit the deep pain and open moral feelings. Thanks anyway.
There was a saintly character named, Prince Myshkin, in Fydor Dostostoevsky's 'The Idiot' who addressed the complex psyche of the people. Wow. The sites I enjoy are so much pain my left foot swells while my left calf aches too. If a doc would press my sore foot it leaves a temporary 'puncture' that appears like a foot belly button. It goes away. I sure don't request pity. I've lived with that flea bite and it is in my FBI dossier.
The stand-up outdoor field hours get cut short, but then if that was not the case, I'd be 12-hours washing spring beets on certain rainy days. My pure intention sure ain't to want to bleed a red beat dry by chatting away here all day? My wish is to portray a hope American can redeem back a potential beautiful effort at a constitutional republic.
It's a good day for human possums like people who live in the good 'ole a usa's be permitted to be daydreaming that? Yes. Thanks Senior/Senorita Che Pasa.
it's a regurgitation of all your previous rants here that are never balanced against the acts of our enemies.
Here's the abriged version for the rest of the Bizzarro world:
USA am bad.
World am good.
Bush am evil.
Buy book.
Although the book must surely contain the kind of acute analysis always found in the blog, I'm concerned about the insistence on a mono-causal explanation for the actions of the Bush group -- and particularly one rooted in a moral theory.
If we step back and consider the individuals who have made the policy, rather than the tenor of the public rationale, such moral themes seem distant. Of Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rove, none seems even remotely interested in questions of 'good' vs. 'evil'.
Rumsfeld was the very type of the crackpot military fantasist, obsessed with pushing his vision of total dominance via technology and tiny force commitments. Cheney's international interests seem to lie in gaining permanent control of petrochemical resources. Rove is driven by the goal of attaining a one-party state through manipulation of electoral processes and the judiciary. Their goals and methods weave together and support each other, but not, I think, because of a common theoretical or moral foundation.
In political discourse, there's an ever-shifting dynamic between actual belief (here: 'we are fighting the war between good & evil') and convenient, stirring mythology that has the same overt content. While it's easy to accept that Bush himself is some kind of believer (at least when he wants to be), it's much more difficult to imagine that the hard men behind him are ever confused about what they want.
I'll be looking into the book, with great interest, to see what you make of such things -- and would even hope that they might be addressed here.
Looking forward to reading it and proud to support one of the best voices on the 'net.
