John Kerry was a war hero and got slimed as a war coward.
And it worked like a champion. Notice that he's not currently the President.
The RW noise machine needs to be thoroughly discredited before the rest of the Progressive aganda can even make it to the table.
First things first.

It's a nice sentiment Bengt ...
Tell it to President Gore or President Kerry.
I'm not disagreeing with your point — the certainty of getting slimed is not a good reason for not doing something. On the other hand, the certainty of failure generally is. Politics is still the art of the possible. And while it's all very uplifting to "dream the impossible dream", it doesn't pay off in politics unless you lay your groundwork very carefully (or somehow manage to tap into an unexpected swell of popular support). And impeaching just because you have the votes to do it in the House when it would take a major miracle to get a conviction in the Senate does not make for credible politics. This is why good prosecutors do not go for indictments unless they are confident that they have the evidence to get a conviction. Having the perp walk makes a prosecutor look weak. So unless there are enough Republican senators to make a conviction in the Senate possible, it is a waste of time and credibility for the House to impeach.
Don't get me wrong here. There is nothing I would like more than to see all these yutzes impeached and convicted. Most particularly the yutz-in-chief. Not only because of his crimes, but because if he isn't impeached he's going to get a pension of $186,600 a year for the rest of his life on your and my dime. Now $186,600 a year is chump change for this guy, but it's my money (and yours).

I really think if Kerry had come out swinging as soon as the swiftboaters got traction he might have nullified their effect. He was damaged by them precisely because he didn't trust the electorate to respect him for trying.
In order to discredit the RW noise machine you have to actually attempt to fight it. Pointing out the embarrassingly sycophantic behavior of the Allens in our print media is a nice little effort in that fight.I don't hold with calling them whores however, the way someone did upthread. I don't think they put in anywhere near the same effort into their jobs. Media 'validator' like Allen or Matthews are more like trophy wives.... always more focussed on what color to paint the ceiling next.

What are you talking about? "It worked"? You, liberals, let it work. It's like these things just happen to you, and you stand there, looking. It reminds me of another trope in American politics, that a story in the press "has legs". It has legs if people talk about it. So you give it legs by talking about it.
The RW noise machine needs to be thoroughly discredited before the rest of the Progressive aganda can even make it to the table.
And how would you go about that?
First things first.
Well, what do you think should be done first? My advice is to fight back on the sliming in various ways - I suggested one way of doing it. So what is your way?

Try watching Mike Allen on TV
If you think Mike Allen's articles are tough to read, try watching him as he's interviewed on TV pundit/gasbag programs. In a previous lifetime he probably lived behind the backseat of someone's car in the rear window bobbing his head up and down, back and forth. He does alright if he's by himself but if he appears with another guest on a show I can almost guarantee you'll need a double dose of dramamine afterwards.
I try to avoid Mike Allen as much as possible, both on screen and in print, but I very much enjoy reading articles others have written about him. I'm convinced he's really Judith Miller's twin separated at birth and I'd like to see 23andme.com do a DNA analysis of the pair one day.

And deservedly so. Perhaps you folks should consider that putting up a pompous rich blowhard was not the best idea. Especially one with a dubious injury record in the war, who famously denounced his fellow soldiers in public. Come to think of it, pompous rich blowhard well describes Gore as well. Who knew that the left would be enamored of pompous rich blowhards? I thought you guys were populists?
P.S. to IngSoc.... Insults are all you have to offer? Tsk.

Shooter, you're just being evil. Touched a nerve, did I?

El Cid's Rating System
The idea of a rating system for synctophantic and obsequious boot licking articles by supposed journalists is intriging.
Much as Atrios has popularized the "F.U." for "Friedman Unit" his perpetual moving goal post of when things will improve in Iraq: About 6 months.
I propose the rating system be modelled after how movies are rated and we name it after a suitable target. Perhaps the Broder? As in "Oh man, that article was such regurgitated administration talking points, I give it three and a half Broders out of five"

Like putting up an inarticulate, rich moron has done so much good for the Republican party. :)
Whatever happened to that "permanent conservative majority" that so many Republicans were bragging of a few years back?
The Republican party is eventually demographically doomed, it's really only a matter of time. Dead party walking, you might say.

Speaking of pompous rich blowhards...
Howse your handicap these days, shooter? Is your golf swing nice and relaxed while you're "keeping it real" for the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan? Have a sip of bubbly and a puff of a nice cuban cigar for our boys in the desert, okay? I'm sure they'll appreciate you for it on some level.
ps--How telling that someone who regularly signs off his posts with "tsk," or "heh" would actually have the lack of self-awareness to refer to anyone else as "popmpous."
