The idea of forcefully articulating a view in order to change public opinion -- such as explaining why de-funding is a perfectly valid option like all the others for ending the war -- never occurs to them.
Sure the neo-cons policies are naive, foolish, and destructive. The management style based on cronyism and loyalty is inept, incompetent, and destructive, and they don't mind an outright lie or two or three, but they can frame the debate. Thesy can COMMUNICATE IDEAS, however false and ethically challenged those ideas are.
Democrats are more comptent managers by a factor of about 10, but they have to take responsiblity for being incompetent at COMMUNICATION, which for crying at loud is a primary defintiion of what politics are.
