  • the smart people

In one sense, it is hard to think of a political fact -- at least since it was revealed that 70% of Americans continued even 6 months after the invasion to believe that Saddam personally planned the 9/11 attacks -- which more profoundly reveals how broken our political and media institutions are than this.

If you construct a world where only stupid people would support the war, and where most people are stupid, then of course you are going to conclude that this world is "broken", if you are "smart".

I don't think the war is a very good idea either, but calling americans stupid and labeling their institutions as broken still doesn't address the values at work here. People see the middle east as a threat to the west...can you really say it isn't? If so, make your case and keep making it, every day. Otherwise, yes it really IS blood for oil.

Frankly, when I see people write stuff like "70% of Americans are stoopid means my theory is correct...", I stop listening. They clearly don't know how to do anything except riff on the debris.
