A genuine political sea change?

Maybe things will change... or maybe things will get worse.

Don't even kid yourself. Things will get worse. The damage these clowns have done will take the next thirty years to clean up and we still have no idea what the full extent of it is. Then there is the blowback from the iraq blunder. That could take 20 years to come back and blow up in our faces, literally. But this termite colony is finally in its death throes and losing their grip on political power. It took them 30 years from 64 to 94 to get where they got. And they blew it in ten. Be patient. It will take time to get back to square one and whatever you do, make sure your kids understand that they can't just put good government on autopilot while the termites are around.

An Army of Juan

Nerdnam: "If young Republicans and conservatives can be induced to volunteer for the military in large enough numbers . . . "

That's pretty funny. But it is far more likely that as Stephen Colbert has suggested illegal immigrants from south of the border will be offered U.S. citizenship in exchange for their military service in Iraq. The Bush-Cheney dead-enders really are quite beyond all parody; and Tom Tomorrow's cartoons make it easy to envision Young Republicans of Military Age busily giving their all for their country and sacrificing their weekend in order to draft a set of talking points and prepare a power point presentation in support of just such a plan.

Politically Lost

It's really difficult to objectively read these rules without an inner dialog filled with disgust. The DOJ has been corrupted deeply by these jackals. I share your hope, but I'd sure like to see the profession take responsibility for it's part in the mess.

-- Politically Lost

Yes. For example, David Iglesias was on The Bill Maher show this week. He stated - which he has done before - that if Gonzalez and crew hadn't publically announced that he (Iglesias) and the others were fired for 'performance reasons' he and they would have remained silent about why they were actually fired.

Iglesias is being given a hero's treatment now for speaking out. it seems to me that since he had received inappropriate phone calls from two New Mexico Congress persons urging him to pursue Democrats and voter fraud cases, without the needed evidence to so, no less, and since he knew that he had been fired for political reasons he should have spoken out sooner. That he didn't shows complicity and cowardice.

A genuine political sea change?

"An undeniable intellectual and social confluence is rapidly gaining momentum and solidarity. This solidarity is amazingly organic, not hierarchical -- its only guide is the sixth sense of skepticism, outrage, and, yes, reason."

That I agree with..BUT...it is taking place among the public only. With a very FEW exceptions the political establishment's incestous cancer has settled into a solid tumor. THEY are not changing, WE are.

Although I am a registered democrat, I have and will cross party lines. In fact I have no party loyalty any longer and regard anyone who supports either of our ruling two family mafias unconditionally as a sports fan and a fool.

I have drawn my lines in the sand and the first line is change in our foreign policy, a total change. No more fear mongering, war profiteering, strutting their hour upon the "Wur" stage, self inflated, multi agenda politicans.

The second is public financing for campaigns.

The third is corruption..politicans are not capable of reforming themselves or the system because it is not in their personal interest to do so...WE have to do it with zero tolorance. No more corporate, foreign or special interest lobbies making policy in this country.

I hope other Americans will join me. Do not sell out your country or your children's future and their American heritage for a few domestic crumbs thrown to the masses by anymore pandering forked tounge establishment politicans. They can tell the truth and nothing but about everything or they can get the hell out. Either we regain control of our goverment and clean house and bring this country back to our original principles or it can and will crash....whichever comes first. I am willing to and will work to bring it down to build it back ..and the sooner the better.

We overthrew the corruption of rule by royalty and elites and built ourselves a country in 1776 and we can do it again.

After Imus--Rush Next? For Practicing Racism With An FCC License

Going after Al Sharpton is all in day's good fun. But Obama is almost Colin Powell. So "Obama, the Magic Negro" is causing some waves, as Digby notes:

http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2007/04/bulletproof-by-digby-i-hear-from-john.html

Rush is not some misunderstood schlub who just made a few slightly off-color jokes and doesn't understand why it bothers some people. He's not even a nasty old racist/misogynist creep like Imus who just thought he could demean anybody he felt like and make big money doing it. Rush Limbaugh a professional cog in the GOP machine who has been helping to set the political agenda in this country for more than a decade. He knows exactly what he's doing when he plays on racist stereotypes and it isn't just for the laughs....
Until recently, nobody was keeping track of the disgusing swill he spews. They are now.
Amato writes:
I've anonymously confirmed that stations around the country who carry the show are having concerns expressed by listeners and even their own workers of color about the Obama parody, and the ensuing controversy in the media, and that respective managements are considering ways to address the matter with as little Imus-like backlash as possible,..This is starting to boil over

....

I don't think Rush should be censored by the government and there is no movement to do such a thing. But if corporate radio can destroy the careers of the Dixie Chicks because one of them once said onstage that she was ashamed that Bush was from Texas, they can fire this noxious SOB for being a stone cold racist, misogynist ass on their airwaves for the past 20 years. That seems more than fair to me.

Maybe we can't get Rush booted just now. But what exactly is the downside in putting him and his GOP enablers on the defensive for his racism???
