"But credit is at least due to both Russert and Beinart for appearing on Moyers' program and facing his appropriately confrontational questions."
Moyers, on the other hand, has shown no such courage.
His interviews in the days leading up to the Wednesday broadcast? Terry Gross. Bob Edwards. Tavis Smiley. Amy Goodman.
Not one challenging question put to Moyers.
"Moyers, on the other hand, has shown no such courage."
Harold? Harold, 'zat you?
No kings,
Robert
Just letting you know you have a trailing quote in the URL for the Moyers show, which generates an error when clicked. Removing it takes one to the right page.
Thanks for the link, I'll be watching this soon!
You forgot to include a list of all the interview requests Bill Moyers turned down.
It will be instructive to see who in the machine will be smearing Moyers, leveling accusations of his "dishonesty" and "partisan bias." Most likely the attacks will be coming from people who are notable for those very qualities.
In contrast with my sarcastic salute to the ignorant commenters of yesterday, I would like to say, with genuine admiration, that Bill Moyers is a true American hero.
I should mention: There was one other interview that I am aware of, besides those four NPR lovefests.
It occurred on a sidewalk in New York City, where Moyers was ambushed by a producer from the O'Reilly Factor. I don't like ambush interviews myself, but it does not excuse Moyers' bald-faced lies about the name-calling that he had engaged in regarding Fox news. It was an embrassment to Moyers; O'Reilly played the taped of Moyers saying the things he had denied saying.
Good, you fixed the link already. Now if you could just do something about the same tired trolls who predictably appear and vomit the same nonsense over and over without ever listening to the topic at hand. I know I should be more tolerant of people with severe psychosocial disabilities, but there's no reason you should afford them a space at the table if they aren't willing to engage in genuine dialog.
Some scrolls, (not scroll's tm-brand of chew tobacco's snuff)can't be refuted. The common good people hear and understand. Other's check NO, and die "inside" when they choose to betry the written words. It is a sorta negative Truth, checked and verified with heart (the seat of where all heathy-heart emotions are pumped forth like a gentle drum beat, and remain softly treasured and embedded) emotion, evoked, as when Thomas Paine * refuted the fakes of that day....
...*WHEREFORE, instead of gazing at each other with suspicion or doubtful curiosity, let each one of us, hold out to his neighbor the hearty hand of friendship, and unite in drawing a line, which, like an act of oblivion, shall bury names (hint RealName) of Whig and Tory be extinct (neocon?); and let none other be heard among us, than those of 'a good citizen, an open and resolute friend, and a virtuous supporter of the RIGHTS of HUMANKIND and of and of the FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES OF AMERICA.*
...that's from "Common Sense." The capitals are exactly as Thomas Paine put caps in his Pamphlet that warned citizens' and could be read, and understood, by all social, and 'fake' economic etc., O, those designated classes we like to box humans into...and no 'shad-fish' for luch, I hope. One last thought from me. hark!
This really ought to be seen by every American. We need a counter-media campaign, and this is the perfect tool. This is the MSM's day of reckoning, and once the Dems learn not to be afraid of the beltway mafia, and realize they have the overwhelming support of the public, then we can really crack down on this administration.
What is Salon.com's position on any disclosure-obligation that Glenn Greenwald might have had in regard to information referenced in this quote, from the Wikipedia entry for Moyers?
"In 2003 the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy, of which Moyers is president, gave money to a variety of establishments which have been described as "left leaning," such as the Christian evangelical magazine Sojourners ($500,000), Salon.com ($277,785) and The Nation magazine ($115,000)[13]. He has also been involved with the group Take Back America, an organization that seeks to help elect liberal political candidates."
No doubt a solid program. For most of us here in RealityLand it was nothing new. But if it gets a debate going...wait, who is going to debate this program in the Corporate Media?
I doubt Chris Matthews or Tim Russert will devote any time to Moyers. O'Reilly already attacked it then had to do a mini-retraction.
Fortunately, most polls indicate that most Americans are no longer under the spell of the MSM. It is only the pundits that are delusional. Of course, they would have to admit they were completely and totally wrong about EVERYTHING. They just hope it all goes away.
SCHEDULING NOTE: Next Friday Moyers will entertain Jon Stewart (who he calls this generations Mark Twain) and Josh Marshall from TPM.
What interests me most about the lack of accountability of the Friedmans, Kristols, Safires, etc, is that the rules are different if you are Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, and brought on a show to talk about civil rights issues.
Exhibit A is this exchange from Meet the Press two sundays ago...
MR. ROBINSON: But back up, back up a step. I mean, we should have the discussion about, about rap music, about gangster rap and, and, and that language, and, and I—and that’s a discussion, for example, those are issues that Al Sharpton has raised, that Jesse Jackson has raised. And, and, by the way, I got a lot of mail on—when I wrote about the Imus situation as well, and, and one strain of it was, was, “Well, who appointed Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to, you know, to be spokespeople?” And my answer was this business did. You know, we’re, we’re the ones who call them up every time anything happens and kept going back and kept going back. And what does he think today and what does he think tomorrow? So...MR. RUSSERT: And it was fair to ask Jackson about "Hymietown," and it was fair to ask Sharpton about Tawana Brawley.
,
What the media does when it comes time to discuss race and class issues is bring out an Al Sharpton to act as a spokesman, then actively attempt to discredit Sharpton (and thus by extension discredit the views he is there ot represent). (and for gawds sake, how retarded is Russert if he still thinks "Hymietown" is relevant after TWENTY THREE years---but is willing to provide Imus with Insta-Redemption.)
But the media never asks a Tom Friedman or a William Safire why they should pay any attention to his opinions on the middle-east, based on their record.
