Can You?

Attach the audio to a polygraph machine? And we'll all watch it short out and explode.

Gonzalez is losing his cool...

He's going down.

He can't even refrain from having a spat with Specter -- and Specter is supposedly on HIS side...

(Though you have to begrudgingly respect old Specter, because he's at least not a complete and total toady for the Repubs...)

Why Am I Enjoying This?

Seriously. This is a debacle, and a clear sign of the absolute degradation of our American justice system. I should be depressed.

But I'm actually riveted by this, and enjoying watching Gonzalez squirm...

Specter and AG

Don't forget: The midnight US Atty provision was thanks to Specter's office. Let's see if he's embarrassed/protective or embarrassed/livid.

AG sounds like me at a job interview, when they ask, "What would you consider to be a weakness of yours?" (Bumbling and stammering, maybe?) Although, really, it's clear that he's doing everything he can not to say anything concrete, as he's clearly painted himself into the perjury corner.

"I don't recall" is not a good thing to hear from the #1 guy. Shouldn't these decisions have, you know, involved him?

Or was it "The Decider?"

AG

GAH! Stop saying "With all due respect!"

To Paraphrase a fine film: "You keep on using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Thursday, April 19, 2007 07:53 AM

AG

"I should be attorney general because I follow my oath and don't move indictments to suit elections."

Isn't this an old Chris Rock routine?

"You're SUPPOSED to take care of your kids!"

Drinking Game

Have a swig every time he says, "the fact is."

As the GOP has been nailed on their corruption, incompetence, lying, and generalized evil over the past few years, that weak-ass and desperate rhetorical device has crept into their communication more and more. As if by saying "the fact is" we can be completely assured that our perceptions and the evidence about the matter at hand is in error, and the reporting to the contrary has been part of a smear campaign against these enlightened public servants.

Hatch-et Job

Come get me when Hatch is done talking. I'll be wretching in the bathroom.

I can't take watching these...

...a-holes lie.

Lying is par-for-the-course with these type hearings.

Virtually everything Gonzales says today will be a lie.

He'll drone on and on with his bullshit, trying to muddy the waters enough to appear 15% respectable.

I wish some senator would lose his cool & yell: "Sir, will you please stop lying! We are tired of all the goddamn lies flowing from your mouth!"

This specific senator--while being quickly labeled by Drudge & his MSM lap dogs as "unhinged"--will, by the vast majority of American people, be deemed a hero.

Leahy

Leahy: "Just so you know, moron, I sent you a letter that specifically referenced this transcript that you've 'never seen'."

Priceless.

FYI

I had trouble accessing the cspan website on my computer, but found a radio simulcast via itunes on KPFK.

Wake me when it's over

Between this and the sickening Gonzales v. Carhart, I've had my fill of lawyers and justice for the week. Except for you, Glenn, and yes, I know we need to pay attention. But I'm sitting this out. Ugh.

Thursday, April 19, 2007 08:41 AM

Ok, Specter's a Toady!

Ok, consider me educated. Read the other responses, and checked out Glenn's recap during the break, and I rescind my previous remark about Specter. In actual fact, I do not even recall, in fact, even making such a remark about Specter. I recall that someone may have suggested that Specter was not a toady, but in fact, I do not recall exactly when that remark was made, or who, in fact, made it.

It's interesting to note

That Bush never fires ANYBODY. How many folks should he have fired for performance reasons over the last six years? I've lost count. But he wanted THESE guys fired for VERY shakey reasons. VERY shakey.

Guilt or Incompetence

Seems to be Mr. Gonzales' choices, today.

Streaming video tip

I was unable to access the C-SPAN video feed using Glenn's link as posted until I added "www" to the URL: http://www.c-span.org/watch/cs_cspan3_wm.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS3

Hope this helps others who are trying to watch/listen. FYI, I'm using Safari on a Mac.

Thursday, April 19, 2007 08:51 AM

I can't really watch right now

but I'm glad I can tab over and check out these comments. I'll have to settle for excerpts on Lehrer tonight.

I'm having trouble with the C-SPAN connection - are you, or is anyone? Does anyone know of an alternative site?

Thursday, April 19, 2007 08:57 AM

Sheesh

I'd hate to have a job where I had to remember important things.

-- GlennGreenwald

You mean it was working and it stopped, or began "stuttering?" It's still playing smoothly on my computer. If there's an alternative source/site I'm not aware of it.

My impression so far...

... is that Alberto is in charge but not in charge really. There were reasons the AGs were fired but in retrospect maybe I don't recall all those reasons but one was a real close call and I wish I'd known a little more about that one but I take full responsibility for all of them even though I wasn't really taking part in the process. I'm protecting the kids. Sampson did it all but I will not ask him about it because I don't want to impede this investigation.

Thursday, April 19, 2007 09:02 AM

@SomeNYguy

If you have iTunes, go to the “Radio Tuner” part on the left, open “Talk/Spoken Word” and double click on KPFK.

Thursday, April 19, 2007 09:03 AM

God I hate you Kyle

Is it me, or is AG actually trying to make Kyle Sampson out to be the G. Gordon Liddy of this whole thing?

Thursday, April 19, 2007 09:06 AM

Who is finally responsible for firing of the USAs for political reasons?

I would suggest that there is amother reason that republicans on the committee are hostile to Gonzales. They are protecting the President by making Gonzales the scapegoat. It is obvious the firings were political and were done at the direction of Bush and Rove. Gonzales is, and always has been, just a "loyal Bushie", simply following orders. Specter et al hope to solve the problem by having Gonzales resign, end of story. Meanwhile the Justice Department remains politicised and Rove continues.
