The unresolved story of ABC News' false Saddam-anthrax reports

I'm not surprised.

I doubt they'll ever correct it. I doubt any reporters will be outing any sources for lying. They have only one well to go to. They are incapable of doing anything else. This is why I don't even watch any of the MSM channels (ABC, NBC, CBS) for news, generally. I go online and read blogs, those I know have been generally correct. And then take the links from there.

If the MSM continues to lose credibility, perhaps the majority of the public will follow suit.

!

Super work! This reeks of guile and treason, doesn't it.

You may need security protection now - I hope not.

Disney...

Progressives who give Disney a dime for anything are helping to finance The Enemy

For those who doubt it I have just two things to say

The Path to 9/11....

The 700 Club.....

That is all!

The Fix Was In, Sort Of

The late afternoon of September 11th, taking a ferry from Port Jeff, Long Island to Bridgeport, CT, the only way off the island that day, in a boat jammed with cars and people who had escaped from lower Manhattan and been stranded at airports, I remember hearing James Baker on the radio they piped across the boat. He said 9/11 proved the US government had become too restrained, that the government had to have the power to reach out and do dark things.

That's always suggested to me that the Bushies were looking for a fight. They're too incompetent to have planned 9/11, in my view, but they clearly had and have ideas about government that I'd hope most Americans would reject. Ideas like political assasinations are okay if they further US policy. What followed 9/11 has never surprised me given Baker's comments on the day of the tragedy. The bodies weren't even cold.

While I ascribe some of Baker's comments to the heat of the moment, being upset as everyone was at the time, it also contains more than a grain of truth about the future, about how these people view US government policy.

Brian Ross under surveillance

Glenn, you're not the only one who's interested in Brian Ross' confidential sources. In an ABC News blog last April, Brian revealed that the feds had been tracking calls placed by his cell phone:

A senior federal law enforcement official tells ABC News the government is tracking the phone numbers we (Brian Ross and Richard Esposito) call in an effort to root out confidential sources.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/05/federal_source_.html

Ross went on to speculate that "Our reports on the CIA's secret prisons in Romania and Poland were known to have upset CIA officials. The CIA asked for an FBI investigation of leaks of classified information following those reports."

My Hero

Glenn Greenwald you never cease to amaze me. The MSM claims that the bloggers are just angry hacks yet you do your homework every time and best them where it really counts: their very own credibility.

You have outdone yourself on this one. The fact that you were in a position to actually talk to ABC about this and they did the whole song and dance about their reputation, which you then blew a hole in with a tomahawk missile, makes this particular investigation of yours particularly righteous and delicious.

Forgive my sexist terminology but todays media needs a "bitch slapping" and I'm glad to see people like you out there making it happen. The very standards and foundations of journalism the news media created for itself are being whittled down more and more as the Fox effect spreads like cancer and the publics attention span get's shorter and shorter.

Bravo Glenn. Love your work.

Wrecked 'em? Jeez, they nearly killed 'em.

The atrociousness of ABC's "journalism" notwithstanding, it should have been obvious to even the most casual observer at the time that the list of targets -- Daschle, CBS, etc. -- indicates the work of domestic neo-fascists. By the way, who's responsible for finding the culprit(s)? The U.S. Justice Department, led by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales? Good thing HIS shop has managed to remain above the partisan politics used by Bush-Cheney to wreck the competency of so many other parts of the federal government.

Keep pounding it!

Keep on it, Glenn. Call Ross and get his sources, get him to comment on why he won't give them up -- this has to become a national story.

Zack is a red herring

Gordon Wagoner:

The story you listed :

http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/anthraxsuspect.html

is nothing but propoganda promoted by anti-american and pro-palestinian forces. It seems to based on an article taken from

atzlan.net:

http://aztlan.net/zack.htm

Which itself seems to be an anti-American religious and propoganda site. It's founding principles seem to be here:

http://aztlan.net/quest_for_aztlan.htm

And they believe that Americans are equivalent with Nazi's

http://aztlan.net/fallujah_guernica.htm

I admit, as does everyone, that the war in Iraq is a catastrophe, but it was not our intention to create a catastrophe, and everyone wants to fix it or get out, as soon as we can find a way. This link was not helpful, and was more dishonest than the ABC links discussed

Monday, April 9, 2007 09:33 AM

wow, here at ground zero

Methinks ABC was hoping everyone just forgot about all this anthrax stuff...it's in the past, "Move on"

At the very least, a mea culpa from ABC is required, and an explanation of who the sources were, why they were trusted and assurances they will not be trusted again.

But really, they should out these liars.

Monday, April 9, 2007 09:35 AM

Does ABC give a sh-t?

Okay, fine, you caught them in a lie. In my fondest dreams, these "Gotcha" moments will multiply until ABC (standing in -- in my dream -- for the Corporate National Media) is forced to say to itself: "Geez, we're not getting away with the crap we've been getting away with any more. We'd better stop spinning stories to favor the fascist plutocrats who are our best friends and get honest with the American People or we're gonna get sent to the principal's office!" That could happen. They could see the error of their ways and start biting the hand that feeds them out of sheer embarrassment. Pigs could fly, too. I mean, why should they, Glenn? Two years after 9/11, 70% of the population still thought Saddam helped cook up the attacks? How afraid are the CNM going to be of a few "Gotcha" moments?

It is to weep, but it is the state of things.
