  • some facts indeed!

Talk about fantastical thinking! I have yet to hear a coherent explanation of what you lefty visionaries forsee happening once we capitulate and leave the Middle East to its own devices. Some kind of nirvana I expect, like you envisioned after the end of the cold war. We followed your advice, let our guard down and unsurprisingly 9/11 ensued.

True realists like Vice President Cheney and the Neoconservatives were warning throughout this period that we had to remain vigilant and actively combat evil, whatever shape it took. President Bush takes this as an article of his deeply religious faith.

Who turned out to be right? The Neoconservatives or the panglossian liberals, who in some demented Orwellian distortion warp now call themselves realists!

  • Glenn:

It's just crazy how hard you rock. I'm starting to regard this blog as one of the "rudiments of civilization." Also: I'm beginning to doubt my own critical reading skills, because I can never seem to find anything in your posts that I disagree with.

  • Breathalyzer Test

It's interesting that the neo-con movement, especially the religious right, praises countries like Iran if they show any indication of becoming more liberal and less theocratic or authoritarian. Why don't neo-cons embrace the fact that democracy is an extrapolation of liberalism and that our Constitution is a holy document that will guide us to the light?

Here is a quick and easy test to see how much of an authoritarian you are. Most of the amendments to the Constitution expand rights to citizens or restrict the power of government. The 18th(prohibition) amendment is a notable exception. It was repealed when the 21st was passed. Which amendment do you favor, the 18th or the 21st?

  • re: Untermenschen...

..For what it's worth, according to my internets language translator, the literal translation of "Untermenschen" is "under human-being."

Since I don't speak German (like some of you) I found that interesting.

    `

Nabalzbbfr, you need to buy a vowell and a clue. It's really simple. America needs to become self reliant by developing a clean source of renewable energy, so that we aren't dependent on Middle East oil. When Bush took office, before 9/11, that was the number one priority. In fact it's been our number one priority since 1973. Reagan, Bush I, and Clinton have all dropped the ball on this one.

One thing America doesn't need is a delusional right-wing nut job trying to protect us from foreign right-wing nut jobs. It just doesn't work that way.

I have yet to hear a coherent explanation of what you lefty visionaries forsee happening once we capitulate and leave the Middle East to its own devices.

And I have yet to hear any coherent explanation of what you righty visionaries foresee happening while we stay and try to force the Middle East to bend to our will.

Here is what I foresee if we continue on the path which we are currently taking:

He who wishes to fight must first count the cost. When you engage in actual fighting, if victory is long in coming, then men's weapons will grow dull and their ardor will be dampened. If you lay siege to a town, you will exhaust your strength. Again, if the campaign is protracted, the resources of the State will not be equal to the strain. Now, when your weapons are dulled, your ardor dampened, your strength exhausted and your treasure spent, other chieftains will spring up to take advantage of your extremity. Then no man, however wise, will be able to avert the consequences that must ensue... In war, then, let your great object be victory, not lengthy campaigns.

-Sun Tzu, the Art of War ~400 BCE

Sun Tzu had this figured out 2,400 years ago, why can you neocons not figure it out today?

  • The reich wing

It is obvious that we sent the wrong people over to remove WMDs, kill Al Quaida terrorists, remove Saddam and bring democracy to Iraq. We should have sent these boneheads. We wouldn't have to read or listen to their opinions anymore. It is likely that they know so much about the subject that they would have been killed by the very same Sunnis that they want to wipe out. Then we could secure peace and democracy in Iraq and it might even spread throughout the middle east.

"Evil" is a bit vague. Your worldview is more simplistic and weak than a decent adult comic. Do you have any idea who the threat is?

  • Thanks for the laugh...

--Thats because you dont recognize any fault in your right wing friends. The telltale sign is that you think if we leave we capitulate. How about we leave and let them decide themselves what they want. But I have family members like you who when they visit think they can tell me what I can do in my own house. Henceforth they usually leave pissed off because I am no pushover. And your revisionism of Bush's ignoring the threat of what they might do is blamed on us as liberals? Thanks for the laugh - it wont fly here.

"True realists like Vice President Cheney and the Neoconservatives were warning throughout this period that we had to remain vigilant and actively combat evil, whatever shape it took. President Bush takes this as an article of his deeply religious faith."

--Here again you think you have something to talk about when you have nothing. Cheney and friends havent been right about ANYTHING in the Iraq war, from the last throws of insurgency to the 'bad' reporting which ignored the painting of a school as opposed to the killing of American soldiers. If its a matter of what to focus on we are not fooled that easily.

--As I noted before you wouldnt recognize reality until you get hit over the head with it. And come to think of it thats just what happened in Nov 2006 so I take back my qualifier. The fantastical thinking in here is the face you see in the mirror.
