"sterling" thinking there buddy
Let's see, to quote you: "I take it for granted that the media is liberal". Well, see the logical fallacy there? You can't even engage the argument since you've decided the result a priori. This reminds me of the fellow who wanted to argue Creationism with me using atronomy, basing his argument on the "shape of an infinite universe"; if the universe is infinite then how can it have a shape? He pleaded that I had to ignore that in order to understand his argument; problem is that the very basis of the argument is dysfunctional, as is yours.
Someone get a new can of Troll Be Gone. Actually, why bother, you guys just come to muddy the waters, not to contribute to any discussion, just to spew this week's RNC/Faux talking points. I usually learn the names of the trolls and ignore accordingly; you've been added to that list.

To those criticizing Pelosi's Trip - What do you really want?
We have all seen how the Iraq war, brought to us courtesy of the lies and deceit of the neocons and the Israel Lobby, has been such a smashing success! Are you really so eager to have a repeat (likely to make Iraq look like a walk in the park) of this war with Iran this time?

Thanks for the explanation!
Thank you to everybody for the definition (also the explanation of the X to someone who is more familiar with pin-yin than Greek).
Not to quibble, but isn't that what they used to call Reconstructionism?

Jonathan Hoag
You never answered my very simple question.
Please tell me which Biblical passages you think show that homosexuality is an abomination.
Could it be that those passages are in Leviticus?
Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9
Study these verses....pretty clear.

Sterling Wrong
Greenwald makes much of Newt Gringich's alleged hypocrisy. (I say alleged because his points on this matter seem less than definitive - he doesn't really take ownership of them, but hastily relies on others' information.)
In the real world, this is known as citing sources. It is how adults talk about things that actually have happened. As opposed to arguing over who would win in a fight, Superman or Batman.
But let's say the allegations are true. So what, Glenn? Gingrich a hypocrite - you've discovered a first! (Note sarcasm.)
Gingrich's hypocrisy doesn't make Pelosi right.
The argument is not that Gingrich is a hypocrite. It's that the entire GOP, the conservative movement and mainstream media are hypocrites, since none of them raised this sort of outrage over his actions, which were actually substantively at odds with the President's policy position as well as long-standing American policy.
Pelosi, OTOH, stressed that the President was responsible for foreign policy, and did not take any substantively different stand. And thus, the further argument is that Pelosi did nothing wrong whatsoever, and those who are attacking her are motivated purely by partisan hatred and/or ignorance.
So, now that you know what the real argument are, perhaps you will see the wisdom in simply admitting that your side blew it this time.
And perhaps pigs will fly.

RE: L.W.M.
L.W.M.
He doesn't even know what it means.
I gave the short answer but I guess I should have googled it or gone straight to wikipedia like you did….
Don't be so sure. JimC may abuse the sheep and the goats. And he may not be too fussy about it. Not that there's anything wrong with that. As long as they consented...
Resorting to ad hominem attacks…sad, just sad.
There is a reason to watch TDS and Colbert:
So you are one of them! Those that get their news from comedians….explains a lot.
Repressed Homosexuality Could Be Root of Homophobia
Clearly ignorance is at play here because your reading comprehension is lacking. I clearly stated my view, I do not fear homosexuals, I fear the consequences of the immorality upon society. But clearly you’re not interested in discussing that point, you’re too busy looking up ways to attack me. That’s fine…shows your level of maturity.

It's only business Glenn
Why does the MSM stick to the tried-and-true -- macho chest-beating and mindlessly recycling neocon shibboleths? Because that's what sells, obviously. Recall, the MSM is only directly "consumed" by about 10% of the population -- "Hardball," "MTP," "Nightly News" and "O'Reilly" fans -- so it only needs to satisfy that group. About 7% of the group believes and is sustained by those myths casting America as the new Sparta, and the other 3% -- Atrios, Kos, you, even me to a very small extent -- get off on making fun of and remonstrating against those who propound them. Just as Colbert makes a living mocking O'Reilly, and Limbuagh does the same mocking Hilary, all the right and left-wing bloggers get something -- money, publicity, self-esteem -- from endlessly exposing each other's intellectual fraudulence.

Paul RE: Slavery & The Flat Earth In The Bible--Much More Support
Paul, many people try to destroy the Bible by raising up points that point to what seems to be offensive or inaccurate verses. So let’s look at some other verses.
Job 26:7
He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.
This revelation in the bible about the Earth floating in space came at a time when most people believed that the earth sat upon some creature or person shoulders. Then in Isaiah 40:22 “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth” It was this scripture that was part of the inspiration for Christopher Columbus to sail around the world. So the obviously the scripture that you quoted from the Flat Earth argument must be not taken as meaning what the author of that article is trying to make it mean or even what some think it means. Sometimes to get the meaning of scripture requires more than lifting a few verses out of context. Some things in the Bible are metaphors and parables but all things are for learning something about God’s intentions, some things are written specifically for the Jews (and some for that time only). However, all are fit for doctrine. Saying that this verse or that verse is not to be read literally is too convenient to allow a whole hosts of incorrect doctrine. Simply saying that you can’t read this or that literally is not good enough. Each verse must be considered individually and as part of the whole scripture.
Trying to use examples of slavery from scripture is another example of not understanding the whole. The Bible is written not only for us but also those that lived during those times. (One note, my translation, the KJV, does not say slaves, it says servants, which can include slaves but also paid servants or workers of the land). The references to servants often reflected the reality of the time but spoke to relationships and honoring God by your dealings with others.
5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; 6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: 8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. 9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
These verses are showing that in your relationships, be honoring to Christ, essentially reflect Christ in how you conduct yourself. These are leveling verses. Even though the reality is a Master/Servant relationship, both should remember whom they serve in heaven. This isn’t an endorsement of slavery but a lesson on relationships as Christians.
Now the Levitical verses (like the ones about Bondsmen and Bondswomen aka servants or slaves) are always used out of context attempt to show seemingly absurdities in the Bible. But that’s only if you don’t understand that the Levitical laws were both moral laws and laws specifically for the Jews at that time to follow. It is important to study and understand what is specifically a law for the Jews and what is a moral law, essentially a law showing God’s character. Remember, the Old Testament is just that, the Old Covenant, and New Testament is the New Covenant. Those of us who a Christian are not under the law of Moses but the Old Testament is still God’s word and still fit for determining what God’s will and desire is for even the gentiles who were ingrafted, even though we’re not bound to those OT traditional laws (as opposed to the moral laws), we still must consider why God would have made them, for what purpose, what lesson was He teaching the Jews, and then determine the NT application.
Lastly, you said I am not a Christian, if by the standards you seem to follow defines what a Christian is, then no I’m not your kind of Christian, I am a Christian based upon the Bible and what it says. The only qualification to being a Christian is to receive the gift of God though Jesus, everything else is grow in the Spirit. Some may become Christians but remain carnal, some move on to a fuller walk with God, all are covered in the blood of Christ if you have received Him. I do not know if you are a Christian or not, Paul, only God and you know that, it would be wise for you to study the Bible to know yourself to be in the faith. I tell you I am a Christian for I have received the gift of God, I am also trying to improve my walk with God by going deeper into the Word. You would be wise to truly understand the Word of God by reading it and not by taking anyone else’s word for it, not even mine. I don’t expect anyone here to take my word as definitive, be as the Berean and check the scriptures yourself,
2 Tim 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
God has a very purposeful desire for His people and there are very real consequences for disobedience, playing with fire will only get you burnt….
