It remains quite mysterious...
I wonder if this refusal to speak to or otherwise engage our purported enemy is simply a refusal to allow for the possibility that they aren't the devil incarnate and in fact are rational actors with their own self interest at heart. After all, recognizing someone's humanity is a prerequisite for negotiation. As such it would represent a failure of the demonization process.
And we all know that our friends at GE and Raytheon (not to mention Disney) have a rather sizable stake in the demonization process.
