  • Glenn: Polling

CNN Poll conducted by Opinion Research Corporation. Sept. 29-Oct. 2, 2006. N=1,014 adults nationwide; 914 registered voters (MoE ± 3); 548 likely voters (MoE ± 4).

"Would you be more likely to vote for a candidate for Congress who supports President Bush, or more likely to vote for a candidate who opposes President Bush?"

    9/29 - 10/2/06

    Supports Bush - 37

    Opposes Bush - 57

    No Difference - 4

    Unsure - 1

Another one, but too big to post here:

"As I read you some things the new Democratic Congress might do over the next two years, please tell me if you think each should be one of their top priorities, a lower priority, or should not be done at all. What about [see below]? Should this be one of their top priorities, a lower priority, or should this not be done?"

    Investigating government contracts in Iraq

    "A Top Priority" - 60%

Investigating questions about the decision to go to war with Iraq

    "A Top Priority" - 49%

Can't find a specific question about "oversight" either, but that's pretty convincing.

The people, they like the oversight.

Also, someone please put to rest the meme that by investigating this or that scandal, the Democrats are "wasting time" - after all, in the height of purgegate investigations, Democrats managed to pass the Iraq spending bill in the house. Evidently the 280+ Democrats on the Hill can do a couple things at the same time!
