burning in effigy
why do the "burners" all seem to have masks? can they be that ashamed of what it is they do? Probably! but it is not out of shame for such cover, but rather a reaction to that oh so wide stripe emblazoned on their spines. the courage of their convictions along with that of the good citizens of Portland is displayed by both. free speech may thankfully be absolute but creating a public nuisence and hazard are not. could not one citizen have stepped forward? could not someone have taken that can of fire-starter and stuffed it up a burners ass? For shame citizens of Portland.

which do you prefer?
I've reviewed coverage of this incident in the LA Times, and on the BBC website, and both refer to the differing accounts by Iran and the U.K. My own sense is that both sides are posturing and acting from fear and suspicion. While it's reasonable to harbor significant doubts about our governments official line and policies, it's not helpful to act as if we Americans are itching for a larger conflict. We could instead look for evidence of and add emphasis to the voices of those that call for a more measured response, evidence which is everywhere available (
