  • With Such Declining Numbers...

    ... it may soon go from a circle-jerk to a triangular-jerk.

  • The Ballad of the Victory Caucus

The Victory Caucus is obviously full of closet dirty hippies and huge John and Yoko fans ... after all, "war is over if you want it," and since the VC wants it so bad, that's all it takes. Taadaa - victory!

  • Doesn't?

.....this Victory Caucus, maybe more than any other single thing, sum up conservatism the best?

Just calling for victory, with victory either undefined or impossible.....and as time goes on the Victory crowd dwindles and dwindles.

It's a microcosm of since the republicans took Congressional power in 1994 and Bush took the Whitehouse.

They look and sound more ridiculous and are more lonely than the sparse anti-war protestors way back at the beginning, that they mocked and hated so relentlessly.

  • Strange echo

That monthly graph has a shape eerily similar to the Gee Dubya approval numbers over the course of his reign.

    That has to mean something!

  • See....

Now you're just plain having too much fun!

    feels good...donit?

  • It's the Reagan message...

"Why feel bad when you can feel good?"

Reagan's dark brilliance was that he (or somebody) recognized that, for most Americans, politics is a vague, peripheral concern that manifests itself primarily as a raw emotion. By manipulating that emotion directly, Reagan succeeded. "It's morning in America! Time to feel better!"

The Victory Caucus is the contemporary extension of that principle. It calls upon Hollywood archetypes wherein "impossible" problems can be solved once the protagonists rediscover their inner strength or whatever is necessary to get them into the "mood" to triumph.

It's extremely dangerous politics, because it denies reality and elevates simplistic, false narratives into the national discourse.

Hide the coffins; hide the costs; say we're "winning," impugn the nay-sayers; by these tactics one creates the impression of success, and Reagan "taught" these people that that's all that matters.

It's a serious problem and we're only beginning to solve it. Americans seriously need to re-aquaint themselves with reality.

  • Sweet mockery

You are succeeding in turning these people into the jokes they should always have been.

You never debate the court jester, you laugh at his antics and if he takes umbridge, he becomes all the more comical.

To the wingnet, keep on flailing. Victory will be yours someday.

  • Social experiment?

I'd bet that if each of your readers went to the site at a particular time we could achieve a Greenwald Spike.

  • It's Like

A sports team. The coach has made a bunch of bonehead decisions, there's 2 minutes left in the game and the team trails by 20 points, and there's a few numbskulls gathered together in the stands, red-faced, holding up their VICTORY signs, and cussing at the fans that are filing out.

  • Now that's kinda cruel, isn't it?

"I'd bet that if each of your readers went to the site at a particular time we could achieve a Greenwald Spike."

I thought this was the time where the VC website says, "Go on! Leave me here. I'm no use to you guys any more."

  • Glenn is less than diligent

You forgot the VC March calendar page, where it says:

    Upcoming Events

There are no upcoming events currently scheduled.

And you can see that on their BLANK Event Calendar:

  • Sweet.. Sweet Victory

The chart clearly shows the "V" .....only inverted like shrubs approval ratings

The victory carcass in on the move.... smell the rotting success... get a piece while you can....

  • Don't underestimate the power of the empty mind

If everyone believes in fairies, Tinkerbell won't die!!

Clap your hands, people, come on!

  • Glenn supports the Victory Caucus in their Surge to Victorious Victory!

Well, in a sense. I bet that 90% of their visitors after the first three days navigated there from salon.com/greenwald/something_or_other.html . They should send you a free Victory Button for boosting their numbers!

  • WAY O/T but what the hell...

Nobody seems too riled up today, so...

Dem. Rep. Pete Stark just allowed himself to be "outed" (wait for it...) as a "non-theist". The first Congressman ever, apparently. h/t Raw Story

I called Stark's office. They're already getting quite a bit of, shall we say, negative feedback. Show him some love, if you're so inclined.

One of the few things that has kept the Victory Caucus on life support over the past two weeks is that Gen. J.C. Christian developed an (understandable) addiction to mocking it, and when he would do that, he would link to it, and I wil bet that there are many days over the past few weeks when at least half of that site's traffic were from people clicking on his links. That's one of the reasons I stopped for awhile. I didn't want to feel like I was artificially intervening in the end-of-life process of the Victory Caucus by sticking a feeding tube in its stomach instead of letting it perish with whatever dignity it could muster.

  • Unfair

Clearly the people who would be visiting the victory caucus are too busy to surf there, what with having signed up for military service, or being out trying to recruit friends and relatives who are physically suitable for service where they themselves are not.

I mean, what else could explain their lack of interest in victory?

Sigh, it's a sad day when empty platitudinous jingoistic propaganda web-sites can't drum up any visitors.

  • @Bamage

I disagree w/ Stark on many things and he has long been a prickly and even nasty cuss, and also, he's old and in one of the safest districts on the planet for that disclosure (Oakland- CA). Still, it is about time SOMEBODY had the guts to do it, and once done, it makes it easier for those who follow.

This happens to be a pet peeve of mine, all the Xian whining about how discriminated against they are, when we non-theists are regarded as having the worst trait possible in a candidate. (One recent poll showed us behind everyone, even out homosexuals.)

  • My Little Blog

My little blog [ gets those types of numbers on a good day, and I only write about Pittsburgh politics, policy analysis, and football.... wow there must be a massive and silent majority of demand for more festering if this victory caucus is the proof of national opinions [/snark]
