Cheney comments scandal

Gotta wonder if any of these comments were actually planted by some of the very wingnuts who are complaining about them. Sure wouldn't put it past them...

This is who we are dealing with

The discussion is whether Lieberman will switch parties. A moderator (put aside the irony of a far right "moderator" for a second) has to ask whether Lieberman switching would cause Nancy Pelosi to lose her Speaker of the House position. Some posters with just enough grasp of the constitution to realize that the Senate is not in fact the House correct her.

She responds with "Thanks everyone...I know this sounds crazy, but Senate/Congress all sort of melts together for me and I tend to get confused. Hand me a few briefs and ask me to pick out the relevant arguements and no problem. Ask me for the difference between Senate and Congress and I'm lost."

Again that's one of their moderators: someone you would presume would have at least a half-assed grasp of how our political system works to moderate a board involving politics.

I Forget....

By the grace of God, we will be delivered from the Evil of liberals and terrorists. Forgive them Lord, the liberals know not what they do.

Is it the terrorists who want to kill us in our beds and the liberals who want to destroy our way of life or the other way around? I can never get it straight....

O, to knock unbidden at your door. (Keats)

We need more of that. I made a snow women for two?

Please have some Angelo Good Cake, on me? I pronounce you entertaining. Lady bugs and gentle varmints, "Ya, ya, ya , ya, nah. nah. nah. nah-nay"...The Na's-lyrics come to memory for some reason? While the rest of us go "Brown's Descent" or "The Willy-Nilly Slide, " You make us smile. go to sleep. we make fools of you? no.

"A screaming comes across the sky."

The neocons and their enablers are so obviously lame. So why do I want to scream -- or is it that I’m hearing a scream echoing back to us from the future? The latest Seymour Hersh story in the New Yorker has less to do with the world of last week’s cover kid Eustace Tilley and more with the world of Thomas Pynchon, who began Gravity"s Rainbow with the famous line, "A screaming comes across the sky." Is Bush trying to bluff and threaten the Iranians into submission? Maybe. Who knows? But as we saw in the buildup to the Iraq war, the threat of force by these guys has a way of turning into the use of force. We're rapidly approaching an apocalyptic future that has a screaming written all across the sky -- unless there's a real screaming right here, at home, on the ground.

A parable

A father sends his son and daughter into the backyard to dig a hole to china. "You dig that hole for the family honor - it will save us from needing to go to china by less direct means!" The children were good children and dutifully obeyed. When the mother got home from work she saw the children stuck in the hole, which was in danger of collapsing, and they explained what they were doing. "Honey," she told the father, "I don't think the children should be digging that hole to china." The mother wanted to bring the children inside, feed them and put them to bed. The father was angry: "They can't stop now! If they stop digging now, all their work will have been in vain! You dishonor their hard work and bravery for this family by even suggesting they quit! I can't believe you don't support our children!"

Is it really that hard to see which parent is in support of the children, and which one is batshit insane?

Noonan

The life of a 20 year old soldier, cut down in battle for a just cause, is not a tragedy, but the final consummation of a sublime act of love and devotion.

Is this the neocon equivalent of 70 vestal virgins greeting a martyr in heaven?

@MBF

Anyone who is gung-ho about this war but who isn't making a very real and meaningful personal sacrifice for its furtherance is quite simply full of shit.

Naming problem

If they really want to "counter" MoveOn.Org they should have a name that captures that setiment. Too bad for them, "Quagmire" is a noun. How about "Linger"?

And

he did it all without calling us assholes and morons. Dailywanks could take a page from mbf.

Although, if I could nitpick:

that "relentless and cruel enemy" our troops battle---could it be ourselves? Which would paint a different picture.

Or could the true enemy be be stupidity, against whom even the gods themselves struggle in vain? That would certainly explain a defeat.
