PS. Hume happens to be correct that the Democratic party as a whole is weak on defense and prone to surrender. Remember Mario Cumo's famous remark when Saddam invaded Kuwait in 1990: "Just give him an island or two in the Persian Gulf and maybe he'll be happy."

I guess the fact that GHW Bush's ambassador giving Hussein tacit approval to invade Kuwait in the first place doesn't count as "surrender" to you, nor the Republican congress forcing Clinton to abandon Somalia, which did become a failed state and now haven for Al Qaeda.

I didn't realize also that Mario Cuomo had been anointed eternal spokesman for all Democrats everywhere and if a quote from 1990 is the best "proof" you have of the Democratic party's "weakness" on defense, it is to laugh.

All of the overtly argumentative feedback to Glenn's point has thus far been at best facile. I'd like to thank those that contribute such easily dismissed arguments for further convincing me of Glenn's points. That the counter arguments are so weak is fairly convincing evidence Glenn is either right, or not very wrong at worst. It's peer review, if a bunch of loony fringe radicals sniping at Glenn could ever be considered "peers."

Similar to what Glenn commented about his radio debate where he ignored the claims that WMD's had been found in Iraq because that claim alone so effectively discredited his opponent. You people manage to shoot yourselves in the foot coming at us with Juan Williams or Mario Cuomo quotes. Never mind incessant claims that Democrats want to "surrender" or some such nonsense. So thank you. You do your own causes more disservice than if you simply ignored Glenn's posts and replied nothing.

1) Amy Goodman and Brit Hume: one is listened to by about one-half of one percent of the population, and the other watched by about 50%. That's balance.

2) Juan Williams is a lefty balance? He's the Broder of NPR. I rarely hear progressive advocacy coming out of his mouth. Going back to when he hosted Talk of the Nation, I regularly felt he was a right-wing stooge.

3) You cannot compare the GUESTS on NPR news shows with Brit Hume who is a HOST of a show. When have you ever heard one of the hosts of ATC etc. espousing partisan political opinion to the extent that Hume does?

I actually feel real 'grief' for Mr. Bush.
