Why is Brit Hume treated like a real journalist and news anchor?

What is this "America" of which you speak?

I always find it interesting when wingnuts serve up sentences such as this one:

The Democratic party will then have served its purpose, in that they will have destroyed America.

It of course presumes that there is something called "America" that somehow doesn't include Democrats. I find this very confusing because the America I know is of course much bigger than the one that this writer appears to be referring to. Tthe fact that her conception cheapens and taints our great nation is a sad byproduct of this mode of thinking....

alas....

Questions for the Salonistas

Are Juan Williams and Daniel Schorr any less biased or partisan than Brit Hume? Yet they are newsmen and "News Analysts" at NPR. Juan Williams in particular occupies the unusual place of being the left-wing counter to Bill Kristol on Fox, and then goes back down the street to the NPR studios, where he is given a strange sort of license to be reporter one day, interviewer another, and "Analyst" on other days.

What Fox has going for it that NPR doesn't, is that Fox, in the interest of fairness and balance, gives voice to Juan Williams, Mara Liasson, Alan Combs, and Greta Van Sustern. I dare anyone to name five conservatives who are given similar time at NPR. For every David Brooks that you can find (Rich Lowry is merely the moderate Brooks' understudy), there is easily one or more E.J. Dionnes. The conservative voices at NPR can be counted, if at all, on the fingers of one hand, and even then they are carefully checked and shadowed by a voice on the left. And those voices don't even include the program hosts! Amy Goodman, Kurt Andersen, Garrison Keillor, Ira Glass, Farai Chedayah; Brooke Galdstone and Bob Garfield, Tavis Smiley. It is all a Left-wing Democratic cheering section. Established through our tax dollars. At least Fox pays its own way.

As for Murtha,I don't know as to whether Brit Hume has quesitoned Congressman John Murtha's senility, but if he hasn't, I sincerely hope he or someone else does! Can any Democrat imagine a worse nightmare than a live televised debate over Mideast policy between John Murtha and someone like Bill Kristol or Doug Feith or Stephen Hadley? They would need to give Murtha oxygen...

Question For Elephantman

How do the Bush, Cheney, Hume and Kristol service records combined stack up to Murtha's?

Monday, February 19, 2007 08:01 AM

Elephants are supposed to have good memories

but you can't even remember what's in Glenn's post.

Let me make it simple. Hume said the Democrats have a reputation going back decades for being unserious on national security. Then he added that this reputation is deserved.

Glenn points out a) large majorites of the public do not agree with this assessment of democrats, hence Hume's assertion is false and b) Hume's dismissal of Democrats as unserious on the vital issue of national security is outlandishly partisan. Do Democrats want to commit national suicide? Really?

Can you provide a similar quote from your NPR bogeymen? Has Juan Williams added this kind of personal commentary to a story he's reported on NPR? Has he inserted into an interview while on air on NPR? I'll save you some time. The answer is no. Hmmm. Perhaps next time you try and make a comparison betweeen Fox and NPR, you should actually include some relevant content. I know it's not the Fox way, but it makes for better debate.

Brit Hume-ungous. How can you tell when Hume is expressing bias? His lips aremoving.

Brit Hume and Tony Blankley love to hate liberals. Their partisan views make them entirley innapropriate news anchors. Hume gets the same talking points memos as everyone else on Faux news. Fox news is a fraud. So is Brit Hume.

Dem candidates will probably face Hume during debates

Brit Humes' status as a "real journalist and news anchor" lends him access and status. It means that he will very likely be the moderator or a member of the panel when Fox News hosts a Democratic presidential debate this summer:

From the Fox News press release:

FOX News, the Nevada Democratic Party and the Western Majority Project have jointly announced that they will host a 2008 presidential debate, which is expected to attract the top Democratic contenders for President. The debate will be presented live on FOX News Channel (FNC) and FOX News Radio on August 14, 2007 in Reno.

In making the announcement, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said, "This is more great news for Nevada. I'm happy FOX News will be a partner for the August presidential debate. Western issues will be a major focus of this debate in particular. With FOX News as our partner, candidates will have an opportunity to not only speak to Nevada voters, but voters across the West who will be instrumental to electing a Democratic president in 2008."

FOX News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes added, "FOX News is proud to be a leader in coverage of the 2008 campaign season and a co-host of this important presidential debate. We look forward to working with the Nevada Democratic Party and the Western Majority Project."

Christ, Hume probably can't even bring himself to say the "ic" at the end of Democratic Party, and we're likely going to be subjecting our candidates to his questioning and his control?

If the Democratic candidates can be subjected to Fox news, then the Republican primary candidates should have to debate in front of a panel comprised of progressives like Henry Waxman, David Sirota and Glenn Greenwald. Given the known liberal bias of reality, we can expect much better ingrity from the questioning of progressive moderators and panelists than from the likes of a rightwing character assassin like Hume.

Dueling

It's too bad Mr. Murtha can't challenge Malkin and Hume to a duel. Then we'd see who are the real cowards.

Hey Wes, guess what?

If we are to judge peoples' public policy relevance based on their military service records, as you ask, "How do the Bush, Cheney, Hume and Kristol service records combined stack up to Murtha's," then I ask you: HOW DOES HILLARY CLINTON'S SERVICE RECORD STACK UP TO JOHN MCCAIN'S?

Be serious. The trumpeting of Murtha as the war-hero decorated veteran comes only after years of his having been on the back benches of his party, consigned to wilderness of Democrat politics after his brush with the law in the Abscam investigation. Murtha was the Democrat version of Randy "Duke" Cunningham.
