A case in point.
Because he plays one on TV.
Kinda like why Paris Hilton is famous...
No talent required.
We deal in illusions, man. None of it is true. But you people sit there day after day, night after night, all ages, colors, creeds. We're all you know. You're beginning to believe the illusions we're spinning here. You're beginning to think that the tube is reality and that your own lives are unreal. You do whatever the tube tells you. You dress like the tube. You eat like the tube. You even think like the tube. In God's name, you people are the real thing, WE are the illusion.

Almost all news casts are controlled by the need to attract an audience and create ads. Hume et al. are a group that furnishes entertainment not news. The people watching want ,and expect the comments he loves to do. This has nothing to do with the reality of the news, and facts are not considered. Jon Stewart does the same thing but announces that his is entertainment. However, much of his audience also accepts his comments as the "truth".
Its all about hearing what you want and tuning into that channel.
Of course Hume's partisan. He's always been. The illusion of journalistic integrity that clings to him is a byproduct of the editorial-heavy programming. Look who's featured around him: O'Reilly, Hannity, Gibson, Cavuto, and Barnes. Hell, after listening to those five all day, Hume seems relatively impartial even to me. Of course he's not impartial, and I've always considered this one of the more peculiar tricks of the Fox News format. This is, however, nothing new to anyone paying attention.
clarence "lawnjockey" thomas is his own man the same way Shit Broom is his own journalist. Each is handed an agenda. The difference is that Broom spews in public. Clarence, Scalia's sock puppet, never asks questions during court sessions. Never. His law clerks write his opinions, which Fat Tony reviews for "content". Fascists are so unoriginal.
"Hume is, literally, indistinguishable from them"
No, he may be figuratively indistinguishable from them - ie his ideas, words being the same - but if you sat Brit Hume next to those other commentators you could simply use your eyes to distinguish him from the others.
Cut out the word - it adds nothing and detracts from the impact of what you have to say (though perhaps it is the editor at fault).
As to the substantive question - because the bar in the US media is held low. Very low. Raise the standards of journalism across the board and see how pundits like Hume are viewed.
If this kind of posting is representative of the angry, ignorant and blindered left wing within the Democrat Party, then I know that they will be rejected in any mainstream debate, and that they will continue to be political outliers for the foreseeable future.
I quote, you decide:

Why would you take this scumbag seriously enough to write about him thereby giving the impression that he is worthy of any attention? Why would you give any of these scurrulous scumbags from Fox, CNN, etc. the time of day (even at 3AM when you have had too much to drink)?
There are much more important things to write about and I don't think I have to list them for you; and, if I do, you should just get a job driving a Towncar to Newark.
If you had actually bothered to READ Greenwald's entire post, or the letters--especially early on in the thread--you would understand why it's so important to write about Hume, and call him out on his bullshit. You're right to distrust Hume and his ilk, but lazy and irresponsible to dismiss him and argue that he should be ignored.
It's all the same Kabuki theatre...
Where the 'truth' falls to the Ginsu knives of the editors and hacks and is cooked down in the Wok of partisanship. What you have left no closely resembles the truth as much as cow shit looks like grass... Ahh, but those exaggerated movements and the hypnotic music...
Opiate of the masses. Such a powerful tool...
Makes people actually wonder if there is 'truth' anymore... Who's truth...
Angry, yes, at the shredding of the Bill of Rights; at 3 deaths a day in Bush's War; at the rape of the environment for profit and willful ignorance, like yours, regarding patently obvious facts about global climate change and our complicity in it. As far as Lawnjockey Thomas, name one significant thing he's done, besides pubic hair on Coke cans, in his role as republikan token on the krispy kreme kourt. ZZZZZZZZ.
Brit Hume's loud complaints about the White House Press Corps' craft services defined my opinion of the man, long before he became Fox News' chief toady. Every time the subject turns to Hume, I remember his whiny complaints about his cold breakfast, as if the White House was responsible for properly feeding, bathing and clothing Baby Brit. I've often wondered if his entire psycho-conservative metier is based on the fact that he couldn't get Eggs Benedict from the Clinton Administration.
I followed your link to Michelle Malkin's site, trusting that she did indeed call Murtha a "coward" as you wrote, but alas, no such thing happened -- she just quoted another rightwing idiot and didn't use the word herself.
Too bad. There are plenty of things to despise Michelle Malkin for without you making crap up, Greenwald.
It's also hilarious to see a column where you whine about Brit Hume being taken seriously as an anchor in a "profession" that claims Katy Couric and Anderson "Grabbin' Some Trees" Cooper. For real.
