Okay, fine, Hume isn't a real journalist. So what do you plan to do about it? The people you should be complaining to are the rest of the news media for continuing to refer to this guy as such. There isn't a whole lot us Salon readers can do about it, we've known for years that Fox isn't a real news network. The rest of the media seems in awe of these guys when they should be laughing at them in these interviews instead of praising how "entertaining" they are. This is an internal problem within the journalism community and a sad situation but until Charlie Gibson or Brian Williams or one of the others finally snaps and declares publicly that the emperorer has no clothes on this is a problem that is likely to continue. The democrats aren't helping by allowing him to "moderate" one of their debates (an irony if you think about it, him not being capable of moderation). Until someone in a real seat of power stands up and says something, this problem is likely to continue.
Register. Vote for progressive candidates at all levels. Buy American products, local produce when you can. Never shop at Mall Wart or other fascist union busting sweatshops. Don't buy products that advertize on fuxxsnooze (if you can find a way to know who they are without actually having to watch that inane drivel). Contribute to Democracy for America. Write or call your congresspeople about important votes and issues. Wear at Stephen Colbert tee shirt. Smile at fascists: it drives them hydropobic (which is their natural state, along with Mississippi). Recycle everything you can. Use less. Turn off the tee vee more. Have dinner with your famiily and friends. Go to national parks, not theme parks. There's a start. Gotta get ready for band practice. Sorry, Anal; we don't do toby keith covers or other fascist anthems.
There really aren't any leftists in the mainstream media at all and no one would be claiming there were but for the fact that the fascist borg hasn't entirely assimilated and synchronized the whole thing yet.
Those who are called "leftists" -- Juan Williams? Ha!; Mara Liasson? OMG on a Ritz Cracker! Ha!;George Stephanopoulos? Ha! I laugh to scorn; I know, I know: Tim Russert! ha hah hahahahahahahah! etc -- by the fascists are at best sometimes somewhat less rightist than the fascists who want complete and total control of all the media, now and forever -- and to display their captive "liberals" (a la Alan Colmes) as trophies until they are gagged and bound and sent to the camps.
Scour as you will, you will not find a genuine lefty anywhere in the MSM.
Show me one who can sing the Internationale. Just one. Then, maybe, you will have found a real lefty... then again, maybe not. People learn so many things in order to be on teevee.
Until you can produce a single real leftist -- who can actually defend, say, democratic socialism, or recite the Communist Manifesto, or who knows what a cadre is or any of that old timey shit -- you ain't got nothin'.
And Brit Hume has perhaps the biggest head on American teevee, at least this side of Tony Snow or Bill Bennett, and that's why he is believed to be a serious journalist. The bigger the head, the more serious the possessor thereof is believed to be.
True.
Now show me a real leftist in the MSM.
Juan isn't actually to the right of center -- if you're measuring him against the American population as a whole. Now compare him with minority journalists. Do you think he'd still come out to the left of that group of peers? Let's remember that he's on the panel less for his politics than his melanin level. He's not Clarence Thomas, but then he, unlike Claro, is expected to hold his own in discourse.
Is that by Gloria Estefan? Hell, I'd bet 90 percent of Murkans don't know what it is, much less the words and music. Truth be told, I don't know it, and I'm a musician who went to Berkeley in the 60's. Main stream media is a 24/7/365 money whore, and any information that leaks through is purely accidental. Ain't that right, Anal? Where's my favorite cyber-thug? Whimper fi.
He's not Clarence Thomas, but then he, unlike Claro, is expected to hold his own in discourse.
That is a completely unfair myth. Clarence Thomas, whether you agree with him or not, is his own man and justice. The notion that he is Antonin Scalia's lapdog has been disproven time and again.
Thomas wrote the best -- unfortunately, minority -- opinion in the Raich medical marijuana travesty-of-a-case. The "liberals" on the Court don't give a rat's ass whether Californians have voted that sick people in their state should have the right to relief via cannabis. Big Brother Federal Government says no!
When the Oregon assisted suicide case came down, Thomas rightly wrote a scathing dissent saying the precedent the High Court had foisted on the nation only 7 months before with Raich mandated finding against Oregon -- not that Thomas thought that was the right result, simply that the Court was failing to abide by its own recent, nauseating precedent.
OTOH, Scalia wrote the best opinion in the Hamdi case (more liberal than the liberals' splitting the baby), and Thomas's was the worst.
Che Pasa, thanks. Debout, les damnés de la terre... Come again? The working class and the employing class have nothing in common. I beg your pardon?
For the most part, I can cope with their braying; it's the sheer ignorance that gets to me. It's nice to see that someone else has a clue what the human race was like the day before yesterday.
Bravo, Brit Hume. Being an objective news reporter and commentator is not the same thing as being a political eunuch. Brit calls it as he sees it. When Cronkite did the same thing, liberals would swoon with adoration - they can dish it out but they can't take it.
