Good article. He's not a "journo" at all. Hume is a hack just like the rest of Fox.
Poorly timed and hence apparently straining entry--the rest of the world figured this out a few years back.
First sentence: "continue," not "continues."

Isn't so fun and esay to come and make assertions and not have to provide a single link or piece of proof for it?
I excerpted a discussion where ABC News' Mark Halperin spoke of Brit Hume as an "experienced journalist" and news anchor. That was from a few months ago. Brit Hume is widely talked about as a news anchor and journalist. YOU may have come to this realization years ago, but do you have proof at all that "the rest of the world" has?
Hume unleashed a deeply angry and purely personal attack on Jack Murtha, all but calling him senile.
Hume:
That sound bite from John Murtha suggests that it’s time a few things be said about him...Look, this man has tremendous cache among House Democrats, but he is not — this guy is long past the day when he had anything but the foggiest awareness of what the heck is going on in the world.
That sounds like to senility to me. But actually that’s just the tip of iceberg of smears against Murtha, and it’s interesting to see just what they are so afraid of. There’s a diary this morning at Kos with lots more quotes, and the wording of the legislation Murtha is proposing. It concludes:
This potential legislation terrifies the Republicans. They face having to vote against ensuring that our troops are properly trained and equipped before they are sent into battle in Iraq. And after four years of the Republicans looking the other way while the administration over-extended our military, they know that it can't be done. Finally facing the possibility of acting in the best interest of the men and women of our military rather than continuing with their empty, mewling platitudes about supporting the troops, they attack. And the target is squarely on John Murtha's back.
They have to go after Murtha, because he’s destroying their “support the troops” propaganda. And this is so important to them that Hume can’t even pretend to be a journalist on this topic.

Poorly timed
About "poorly timed": the point of the post - the central point - is that Hume's conduct this weekend went futher than it has before, making it impossible to maintain the pretense any longer. Additionally, his specific comments -- which were made yesterday -- about how the Democratic Party is perceived are factually false, as documented by the ample evidence I included to support the argument. You ought to try that next time you are eager to show how insightful you are by spewing opinions without the slightest support.
why is he even on my teevee?
And, "not just content"? "One" continues.
Why Bill Donohue is treated as a real voice for religious tolerance?
Why Jerry Falwell is treated as a real man of the cloth?
Why Bill O'Reilly is treated as a real journalist?
Why Pat Robertson is treated as a real missionary and humanitarian?
Why George W Bush is treated as a politician and office holder?
As a certain circus owner once put it: "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can fool all of the people all of the time." (I paraphrase) Its a rather sad commentary on our public discourse that blantant and self-interested ideologues like these command both creditability and respect. Sadly, we can't simply call the Man in the Red Hat anymore and have them all dragged off to a dungeon somewhere.
But that's the price of the Bill of Rights, I suppose.
Was one of the first to lead the charge comparing the number of American military deaths and casualties in Iraq to internal domestic statistics--stuff like car wrecks and crime.
Is it possible to be more anti-troop than that?
What's worth remembering about Hume is that he got his start with Jack Anderson, of all people. This was back when Anderson was at his most populist and Hume shared the byline for awhile. In a sense, that may account for his willingness to both claim "objectivity", but also feel comfortable doing this outside the bounds of mainstream media. OTOH, he probably hasn't done anything resembling real journalism in a couple decades.
Those are just facts. What Brit Hume said -- in addition to being self- eviently inappropriate for a supposed "journalist" and news anchor -- is also completely false.
I'm going to step out on a limb and assume you were going for "evidently".
Maybe "propagandist" or "Republican propagandist" is a more descriptive term than "journalist" "news anchor"?
I wouldn't much care, except that most of my Bush-supporting Republican family back in Ohio gets all their news from Fox--those, that is, who don't get it from Rush Limbaugh.
Exactly, Zack.
They've used this tactic from the beginning, in concert with lies and bogus claims of national security. Now that they've been exposed as pathalogical liars who can't be trusted on national security, the only weapon they have left is personal attacks.
I'm starting to think the real reason the wingnuts don't want the troops out of Iraq is that they're terrified that withdrawal really will allow things to improve there.
And if Murtha's bill by some miracle gets through, Democrats will get the credit for saving Iraq from anarchy.
As a certain circus owner once put it: "You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can fool all of the people all of the time." (I paraphrase)
-- Iokannan in the Well
Hee hee. Abraham Lincoln said that. "A certain circus owner" once said "A sucker is born every minute." Which is also appropriate in explaining why Hume is still considered a real journalist.
