Yes "demographics" are against the Republicans, but far worse, and what will cause the current Limbaugh Corporatist Republican Party to become the modern Whig Party, is their anti-science "delusions", phony Christian "values", their belief in endless war & EMPIRE, their belief in gut decisions over rational, intelligent decision making, their "complete" ownership by the CORPORATIONS, their deep rooted ancestry & connection to the old Confederacy of the Civil War South, their blind suicidal jihad that worships GREED & the Supremacy of the Wealthy, where every problem can be solved by their holy mantra of tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts... especially when those tax cuts go almost exclusively to their CORPORATE OWNERS & their fellow brethren, the VERY RICH!

Demographics is "the least" of the Republicans problems.

At the expense of any notion of GOP inclusiveness or compassion - blatantly pandering to the white vote in '68, '72, '80, and '84 was a winning strategy for the GOP.

This article is a good example of what's broken in American politics. Winning elections is the starting point of governance, and good governance takes hard work and a respect for the the institutions of our country. Republicans for the past 30 or so years have demonstrated nothing but contempt for governance.

"Government is the enemy" said Ronald Reagan and the GOP still believes that at the core. You elect people who believe that and it's no surprise that they break things.

My perception is that the GOP has trashed science, trashed the notion of "public interest" and trashed any ability they have to effectively govern.

"I don't pretend to have some solution in a bottle that will change things for Republicans."

Stop treating life and the economy as some sort of zero-sum game, get rid of hate mongers like Rush and start listening. Maybe that's a start!

I'm a 39 year old white male independent voter and I absolutely DESPISE the GOP and everything it stands for.

I hate Republicans like cancer and can't wait to see their sick, insane party die the death that it deserves.

Not that I think the Dems are all that great - they sure do manage to fuck up alot - but Republicans are downright EVIL. Their failed ideology and cruel, inhumane policies have been dragging us down for years. Fuck ANYBODY who wants to drown our government in a bathtub - I happen to LOVE my country and its government, so FUCK YOU, GOP!

I can't wait to see these Republican deadender dumbfucks dwindle into irrelevance. Maybe if they had been a little nicer and a little more decent as human beings when they were in power, the rest of us wouldn't hate them now.

The GOP in a nutshell: the strategic key to electoral success is trade one form of bigotry for another i.e. regain "conservative" hispanic/black/minority votes by playing off their bigotry toward GLBT community. Perfect distillation of what the GOP is--can't compete in the realm of "ideas" only in the realm of pitting the fear and bigotry of one group against the "other" to achieve electoral success.

Here are my questions:

1) Why would anyone vote for others to govern them who don't believe in government (except as an mechanism to enrich themselves and their friends).

2) Which part of the conservative platform over the last 40 years has actually improved the "majority" of American lives . . . given we are massively in debt, we no longer have any faith in our major institutions (business, political, press), we spend more to satiate our fear of the world in "national/homeland defense" (fucking creepy Orwellian speak) THAN THE ENTIRE WORLD COMBINED, we torture and murder without legal due process, we're involved in two pointless self-destructive wars prosecuted based on fabrications, exaggerations, and outright lies (not to mention 100s of bases in 100s of countries at the cost of 100s of billions--the hallmark of an empire), a major terrorist attack was planned and executed on American soil of which we had ample prior evidence but were incapable of preventing with a little common sense (thanks prior conservative administration), public schools and infrastructure are crumbling (because why would any American taxpayer take the long view that educating ALL CHILDREN regardless of who their parents are or how they came here--yes even minorities in poor urban areas--benefits ALL OF US), the middle class is practically non-existent because of conservative/neo-liberal economic policies (concededly embraced by both parties), higher education is out of reach for most without mortgaging your future to massive crushing debt or military service, the biggest state economy (California) is insolvent, 1 out of 4 Americans can't afford to pay to see a doctor, 1 in 6 don't have a job or meaningful prospects of a job in the next 18 months, 8 out of 10 Americans are one serious medical emergency/condition away from bankruptcy, we abandoned a major US city and its populace to ruin and death because we were too cheap to spend a few preventative million on levy improvement and repair, 4 out of 10 believe the planet is 6000 years old, we incarcerate more of our citizens than any civilized nation in the world for a drug addictions and mental illness, we're unhealthier than any civilized nation on the planet, and we unsustainably consumer resources like crack-heads on a bender. So what about conservativism is actually making America better?

3) A significant minority of the population and a significant number of its elected representatives and bureaucrats in our government are anti-reason who would like nothing better than to see America become a "theocracy".

4) And white males constantly whine and play the victim like they haven't been the #1 beneficiaries of legal, cultural, financial, and nepotistic "affirmative action" programs based on the color of their skin and inherited wealth for close to 250 years. It's deluded. Conservatives are deluded. And the only thing that really scares me is that given our history and the latent stupidity and bigotry in this country they just might make a comeback and give rise to something even worse than the last 40 years has produced.

I wish I wasn't an atheist so I could pray to God everyday that "conservatives" become politically extinct or self-secluded into little harmless enclaves like the Amish and Mennonites and let the rest of us get on with attempting to create a new modern world that works for everyone.
