Reich omits the third kind of Obama voter: the confused. When a guy habitually talks out of both sides of his mouth, the people to his right and the people to his left hear different things.
You are right about the two camps, but wrong about what is needed. I got a call today from a talented volunteer asking if I would sign on publicly to the President's Health plan. I said no. I said that when the President commits to the basic elements of his plan during the campaign, then I'll sign on.
The congress is being coddled by the administration, in my view, even if they think they are being pounded by the President. When solid Democrats with big national reputations like Dianne Feinstein merrily go their own way, order needs to be restored. Where's Lyndon Johnson when we need him. There is no one actually in the Congress actually driving the President's policies.
I didn't work for two years and give all that money to watch a bunch of Demosaurs pretend that they can't do health care right. Nathan Hale said, "I regret that I have only one life to give for my country." We can't even find Democrats willing to give their votes for their country.
Bah!
Help Obama? How about helping ourselves? Have we so diminished ourselves that we won't fight for what we want?
I for one am not interested in helping Obama. He isn't interested in helping me. He is like every other politician and he will only fight for real change when he is forced to do so because citizens demand it.
Forget about helping him. Decide what you want and make demands on the system to get it.
President Obama, running on a platform of change, won more votes than any candidate in U.S. history. In addition, there are now 60 Democratic senators, a filibusterproof majority. In the last election Democrats expanded their control of the House of Representatives and also increased the number of governorships holds to 29.
Why do we keep worrying about bipartisanship when even most Republicans have an unfavorable view of their own party?
What Obama needs is far more pressure from the left, and that includes people willing to criticize him, not just harangue their senators and representatives.
When he starts making good on his promises, such as getting rid of Don't Ask, Don't Tell (I'll let him slide on the vow to get a shelter dog), then I'll believe it wasn't just a lot of words
Vote every incumbent out in 2010 and 2012! Return to Constitutional government.
If the highly intelligent man we sent to the White House didn't get that our vote itself gave him his mandates, then we might as well all walk into the White House offices and start doing the work ourselves. Your thinking is ridiculous, sir. We already "made him do it". The only thing left is for him to DO IT!!
