Waiting for Obama

States are pushing ahead with their own reforms instead of waiting for the president to act.

The letters thread is now closed.

Golly don't you think you are a tad impatient?

The man has been in office less than 6 months and you're already expecting him to reform 8 years of abuse and mismanagement. Get real. Stay on focus and keep things going but stop 'blaming' him and accusing him of being slow to do things...There are only so many hours in a day and etc. Also, many of these things are things that states and local governments should be addressing and not the federal.

Change

So much for "change we can believe in."

Another example: Dems Abroad passed a sweeping marijuana resolution recently

Democrats Abroad is considered a 'state' party by the Democratic National Committee. It is the state party for Americans living overseas and their members come from all 50 states.

At their annual global meeting in Washington DC back in April, they passed a resolution calling for the regulation and taxation of marijuana and for treating it the same way we do alcohol.

You can read more about it here: http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/05/26/under-the-radar/

Damn that Obama and his lack of a magic wand

Sirota, you did us a favor at Kos by taking your ball and leaving. Can't you do the same elsewhere? I mean, WTF? Is he a king? Did we disband Congress? (Maybe we should, but I digress). It's freaking June of year one, and the sausage is being made. Give us a break. BTW, how about your hero Brian Schweitzer endorsing that man-of-the-people McAuliffe for VA governor? Any thoughts? Didn't think so.

Salon's "l€ft" wing out of control

Stupid headlines, idiotic articles, vapid columnists. And bleeping heart Joanie wasting her time on the tube with radar - so stupid!

Friday, June 12, 2009 10:23 PM

Patient...

Maybe when some people quip that Obama is the one, you actually believe it. Less than six months into the job, people like you are already complaining as if the guy has been a two term president waiting to be out. C'mon, people...A little patience please...

Friday, June 12, 2009 11:19 PM

Wait.... I dont get the problem

"States are pushing ahead with their own reforms instead of waiting for the president to act"

So? Good....Hooray

That's like saying "headline: Boy does homework without his mom telling him to"

"with America gorging on a presidential hoopla, Ritter backed off the pledge because, as the Denver Post reported, he believes America should wait for President Obama to act"

That's stupid of him. What happened to WE are the change we've been waiting for? The WE is the important part.

Now get back to work Ritter, and quit being a baby.

Sirota is being a tad impatient

but Obama is selling Americans short by trying to be Bipartisan. The thing is that he doesn't have to be. He has the votes in congress and come vote time no one is going to remember who voted for what in '09.

Obama should be focused on ram-rodding good health coverage for us through congress (anything without a public option is unacceptable). The Republicans have 2 choices, vote against it and face public wraith or get on board and support one of the most genuinely benevolent pieces of legislation in this country's history.

To parley with them is a) a waste of time and b) BAD for the American people.

ugh

numerous grammatical errors in my previous post. My apologies, it's late here, yawn...

Saturday, June 13, 2009 12:24 AM

Too many...

pimply whiny nerdy writers for Salon. Like Mr Look at Obama and See Bush Greenwald.

Time to hire the Gonzo, but he's much too uncivilized for Joanie. She'd rather hang with radar than hire a real man. Instead we get a bunch of castrated types.

YES!

The rulers will never be able to control the STATES!!!!!

Yes, those state legislatures will fix everything, being paragons of virtue, democracy and public interest!

It's gonna be a bright, bright sun shiny day!

My dear car2570,

POSH!

Within the first 5 months of the Bush Administration, they had already organized a coalition to invade Afghanistan, formulated plans to invade Iraq and planned 9/11!

Do we have to wait until September for this firecracker to go off?

Hubba Hubba!

Speaking for Colorado

I agree, Mr. Sirota.

After the two years that you have blessed us with your presence here in Colorado, it is unconcionable that the state government still does not run just as you personally demand.

If I were you, I would demonstrate my outrage with my feet, You should leave and demonstrate to Governor Ritter that you aren't playing around here. In fact, I encourage it.

Really, don't mind us. We'll be able to get by on the self-righteous C-grade pundits that we have here already.

Did Obama talk about your Mama?

Otherwise, I can't see the indignation you continue to have with President Obama. He has made sensible decisions on Iraq, Afghanistan. He has worked to save the auto industry and to prevent a complete melt down of the global financial system. He has passed a massive stimulus among other things increases the social safety net. He has reached out to the Arab world and made significant progress in rebuilding relations with our allies. He has signaled his intent to be an honest broker in Palestine. He has delivered on any number of things including reproductive rights. He and congress continue to work on a health care plan that can get enough votes to pass. He and Congress continue to work on an energy plan that can pass. (This may be a lost cause). He has not yet done much for Gay rights. (The man can only do so many hot buttons at a time). He has not reformed Bush era/error national security policies as far as i would like. However, I believe he has done all that is politically possible.

So please, tell me what your real issue is with Obama.

Give me (and all the rest of us) a break.

After 8 years of suffering under the administration of the previous incompetent fratboy boob president, each and every time you post you attack Obama? Seriously???

I identify myself as someone who voted for Obama, but without stars in my eyes. I feel he is a man who plays chess rather than checkers. I admire his ability to strategize. Even though at times his measured approach makes me impatient, I like that he is looking farther down the road, and figuring out the best way to get where we need to go. He's certain to make mistakes, but he is not stubborn and appears to be capable of course corrections. After eight long, miserable years under the Bush administration, I can't in all honesty ask for more.

I used to admire your writing, and your fire, but these days both you and Glenn Greenwald give me a headache. I'm inclined to say, "if you can't say anything nice..." but I won't. Instead I'll say that if you once in a while found something positive to say about Obama you'd have more credibility.

The bulldog act fit the previous administration; it's completely wrong for this one.
