"Still, Obama yoked the strongest possible feminist affirmation of the right to choose abortion to his message of abortion reduction -"
It's only the press and article like this refer to 'abortion rights where as the pro-choice movement cause is for all reproductive rights. In fact when Kate Michelman was president of NARAL it was she, not the Cliton's who said "the need to reduce aborition". The current president of NARAL is a Catholic.
Most Catholics ignore the churches official teaching on contraception, and just as many Catholics support legal abortion as the general population.
Randel Terry and Alan Keyes will not help the ANTIS he will just show how radical their movement really is. They are the two most extreme members of this movement. In fact many people quit contributing to the so-called pro-life movement when Randel Terry orchestrated his "Cities of Refuge" demonstrations across the nation in the early 90s. Randel Terry also had close connections to the Militia movement as dis many of the most radical anti males.
Simply by virtue of the airtime and the attention in venues such as this the idiot wins.
When will we learn to simply ignore these guys into insignificance?
Randall Terry, Alan Keyes and the other anti-choice people should have, by now, converged on the home of the OctoMom to help her change the diapers, etc., of her many small children.
She followed her and their belief that unused fertilized eggs should be used by becoming impregnated again, so shouldn't they offer her the financial and daily help needed which resulted from their belief? Where is their commitment to their cause?
Have they started a scholarship or insurance fund or do they expect Democrat social policies to pay for her children's education, health and dental care, food, clothing, etc., when it's necessary?
Those same empathetic social policies pay for the costly legal system, prisons, etc., that house so many people who clearly were unwanted children, since most in prison were abused.
Since their lives will never be in danger from a pregnancy, it's easy for Terry and Keyes to be glib and spout dogma dangerous to the health of women, who still are the victims of men deciding what they may or may not do with their own bodies in this 21st century.
Margaret Sanger used abortion and the language of "woman's rights" as a cover for her real cause which was eugenics. Many, many people would not have existed if she had her way. Including most Jews, blacks and anyone else deemed unfit. Sanger's ideas were crushed when Hitler adopted them without using the cloaking language favored by the eugenics movement. Sanger was nothing but a racist and using her to further any argument shows a lack of historical perspective. Sanger did not approve of certain lives, or types of people. Pro abortionists don't approve of certain types of lives depending on their/its stage of development. Even if born alive they reserve the right to end it at their will. Does it not seem odd that most Planned Parenthood operations are in areas where people of color live. Just another form of genocide.
What a stupid term. This is just another way to avoid an honest dialogue. I am pro-life--all kinds of life, including insects (who pollinate our food crops) bats (who help keep said insects from ruling the world) and all the "little brown jobs" [Gerald Durrell] that have essential ecosystem functions. I am also pro-choice...and if you are on the fence about whether abortion should be legal, spend some time talking to a child welfare worker. The things people do to their unfortunate children are incomprehensible.
I'd be willing to make abortion illegal...on the day that all women, all over the world, have total control over their destinies, including their sex lives. In other words, never.
Being an African American i voted for Obama. And i certainly believe in fairness & equality, so i applaud Notre Dame in not being moved to let our President be drummed off the stage as it were. But the one thing i do not and never will agree to is. Public support for abortions. If women want to murder their babies, let them pay for it!
Allow me to demonstrate the flaw:
"The majority of crack cocaine is located in minority communities. It's genocide."
Makes just about as much sense.
The simple fact of the matter is that Planned Parenthood clinics are all over the country, and they're probably in mostly lower-income communities. They probably prevent ten times more unwanted pregnancies than they perform abortions, by providing cheap birth control. This, along with abortion, actually reduces crime (see the book Freakonomics).
And just one more question for the pro-life people, the majority of whom I assume are influenced by their relgious beliefs: If you're so concerned about the plight of the poor, minority or otherwise, what have you done about it? Remember what Jesus said was the difference between the sheep and the goats. They visited prisoners, they fed the hungry, they cared for the sick. If Christians did more of this, the number of abortions performed in this country would certainly be reduced.
Yes, Kite Flyer, Margaret Sanger was right and so is Frances. Mrs. Sanger paved the way for Frances and I and many other women to have control of our own bodies.
Gor Bud you are wrong. As a young journalist I interviewed Margaret Sanger when she lived in Tucson, Arizona. Throughout her earlier life, she faced jail, crude criticism and indignities of all sorts to preserve the rights of women to have control over their own bodies. That is not a government function, a church function or the job of Randall Terry.
I think abortion is here to stay. I'm not sure what this guy's deal is. It's like the people who want to make taxes unconstitutional. Taxes aren't going away either.
But I disagree with the semantics. A woman is making a decision on her body - yes, that's obvious. But to completely pretend that she is not making a decision on another's life or another's body is delusional. She is making a decision on two lives, not one.
She still has a right to do so but not calling it what it is doesn't help anybody.
