With regard to big bands, music and art though, I'm afraid the same morally bankrupt bigwigs who got us into this mess still have their hands around its collective throat.

Last I checked the AP is still trying to throw Shephard Fairey in jail for the only relevant piece of truly popular art (his picture of Obama) this country has seen in the past 30 years and the Boston Police actually managed to arrest him based on a piece of graffiti he did years ago.

Appreciate the spirit and all but until this country gets honest with the fact there is and has been an undeclared war on art and anything truly creative, that the staid, criminally stupid, corporate minds behind the crap that's passed for art (in everything from music to movies to actual art to, most importantly, literature) can't figure out a way to profit off of, I'm afraid you won't be seeing any real ingenuity in music, art or literature even in the midst of this recession.

Face it innovation, in business but particularly in art, is dead not because there's a recession but because the moderately stupid have figured out a way to fleece the system (bailouts for everyone) while ensuring anyone who is actually creative enough to challenge them (Fairey) can in no way be allowed to do so or profit. When you let the stupid prosper, the first thing they do is ensure the intelligent and creative aren't allowed an outlet. Because if they are, that's the death of them.

Big bands? Hahaha. Have you SEEN the people who run the music industry? Yeah ingenuity and creativity would be the end of them. So you can rest assured they won't allow that to happen anytime soon. Hence you'll keep getting the same crap we have for most of the past decade.

Now if some of those supposedly liberal, artistically inclined people would actually REACH OUT to people like Fairey (cough, Salon, cough) and give them a venue to show their work then maybe. But they won't.

THe vast majority of the slobs in Washington are really unemployable. They are there for the money. Who in their right mind would want Barney Frank working for them or Chris Dodd or Miss 38D as speaker of the house.

The depression was a extremely difficult time. My mother used to give hobos who came around to the back door food and little money. Those poor guys, veterans of combat of WWI were polite, and adequetly dressed unlike the great unwashed mass of sdhameful rabble that put Obama over the top.

Did you see that woman proclaiming that Obbama is going to pay her mortgage and put gas in her car ?? Huh. Where in the hell did she learn that? From Acron?, from the far left wing of the Democrat party? "Vote for me and I'll get that rich bastard down the road to pay off you mortgage."

We've got problems kiddies, the politicians compound the problem.

What we need is term limits so that the slobs can imitate Cincinnatus and return to their own affairs after actually serving their country for a short time. It'll never happen as long as we have voters like that woman and her mortgage, like that one who was living in a truck, and that guy who wanted Obama to produce more benefits for him from Mc Donalds since he had been laboring hard there for 4 1/2 years.

Read Amity Shlaes's The Forgotten man, read Fredrick Lewis Allen's Only Yesterday and Since Yesterday. Then read histories of the second war and how we'd lose a couple of thousand American kids in one battle; kids who were the products of the depression and then be thankful for what they did so that you were not baked in one of the German's ovens or being that target for Japanese bayonet practice. Start getting serious about politics, not about what the hell the slobs can do to buy your Vote!!!!!

As far as I'm concerned, The United States of America is getting exactly what it deserves. While many people have been brainwashed and sold on the Obama-as-Messiah marketing machine, I have never been so disillusioned with my country and the values it sells to its subjects. Does anyone really believe that any politician is anything more than a puppet for big business and the fat cats that really run this country? Does anyone really believe that this guy wants "change" and not just business as usual? Does anyone really believe that your vote really matters? THEY ARE LYING TO YOU. They have lied to you for years and you eat it up, don't you? This guy who purports to be bringing you this "change" is giving billions of dollars to the very same people who charge you $35 for an overdraft and $3 every time you use the ATM machine, while you get an extra $13 a week. That's your change, folks, all $13 of it. Those of you who think the government will save us, THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO MORE MONEY. They are broke, trillions of dollars in debt and they've been borrowing money for the past couple of decades, much the same as we have been doing all this time, just borrowing our lives on credit. The well has dried up now. It is all an illusion. How could we ever hope to sustain the entitled lifestyle we have grown to expect? It was always just an illusion. This country produces nothing now, save for "financial services", service charges, ATM fees, et cetera. We import 80% of the food we eat. We have outsourced our entire lives. But, pay no attention to that, America, go back to bed. Watch that American Idol and the new reality show and stay tuned during the commercials because you don't want to miss out on the next hot new product that is made in China that you can't afford, so get out your credit card because it's all imaginary money anyway. The government will save you. They'll bail us all out. Barack Obama will save us all, you poor and downtrodden souls.

And by the way, if you vote, you lend credibility to a system that deserves none, a system that is so flawed beyond repair and from which there is no escape. Don't blame me because I refuse to participate in this popularity contest for thieves. We have taken this beautiful land and turned it into a chain store shopping mall. We erected borders around it and called ourselves king and got fat and rich and ridiculous and started wars with everyone around us who refused to cower down before the greatness of America the Mighty, land of the free and home of the brave. We have lived with such avarice for so long, with such materialistic gluttony that it is no wonder we are headed for disaster. We are getting exactly what we deserve.
