Give that man a column here at Salon and be done with it. Stop making a mockery of your fake tolerance. If you think there's a material difference between him and Greenwald you are high.
Creators of the crazed phrase "Christ killers."
Roxie, ever go by the handle WinSmith? JonathonInTelaviv? Electrorobot?
How many movies portray Catholic priests as villains and how many movies portray Rabbis as villains?
You don't even have to think about the answer to that one.
Sometimes, it seems that Jews like being offended nearly as much as Muslims, and liberals.

I'll say it again: please cite a single article published in Salon in which an anti-Semitic statement is made. Because I'm pretty sure that I, and a lot of other readers who probably have a lot more reason to be leery of anti-Semitism than you do, would have spotted it already, but I'm willing to be proven wrong. Put up or shut up.
"All of a sudden Salon lifts its snout and declares a holocaust denier to be bad yet they've published columns by Juan Cole defending, excusing Iran's official statements that say exactly the same damn thing."
As many Salon staffers have stated, we must hold to a higher standard organizations that we are a part of. Iran can spout its racist, anti-Semite, holocaust-denying crap, but that's not our government.
Meanwhile the Pope is (or should be) under greater scrutiny by the American public because of the amount of moral authority he carries due to the number of Catholics in the U.S. He is spiritually sovereign over a huge portion of the American and global population.
By comparison,, Ahmadinejad is in charge of one country with limited international influence. Most Iranians abroad have little love for the present Iranian government since they fled the intolerance and brutality of Khomeini's revolution. Furthermore, Ahmadinejad is NOT in charge of Iran's foreign policy. All his anti-Israel rhetoric is playing to his voters. Foreign policy experts worldwide know he hasn't got a real bullet in his gun. The American obsession with him would be like Russia worrying the U.S. is going to invade because Sarah Palin said they were bad. The Iranian military answers to Ayatollah Khameini, who ironically has given the American chattering class little to freak out about. Ahmadinejad can't even influence foreign policy through the Iranian electorate: Khameini's position isn't elected!
Personally, I subscribe to freedom of speech no matter how unpleasant. I'd rather see someone spewing ignorance in public so those with solid facts can make them look like the idiots they are for all to see. And frankly, I thing it is a good idea to know who these people are, and who is actually paying attention to them. There will always be a certain subset who will stretch any truth to suit their political agenda no matter how distorted it becomes.
And Roxie, I think I will count you among that group.
I share the opinion of Ms Kissling, but not the outrage. The current pope is a nod to the past by equally aged Cardinals. Its akin to GW naming Cheney as his VP after tasking him to find one. They mailed it in. The next Pope won't be burdened with the 20th century, I'm sure of that. Of course, all Catholics are burdened with history in a way that no other religion, race or otherwise could ever be. Including Jews (sorry, its a numbers game). Catholicism reigned when the worst of law, philosophy and raw power were one. The Catholic story is the white mans story. Tragically, the human race bottomed out again last century with Nazism and Totalitarianism. The largest institution in the world couldn't escape that. We are not alone in culpability by far. But we cannot escape it any more than we can escape drowning witches or the Inquisition. Its there, in our past. This pope and the priests he protects play a mindgame of exclusion. I'm certain that game will die with them and future popes will participate in a non-Eurocentric world - informed by the past but not ruled by it. Maybe then I'll feel Catholic.
Sure , right after non native Americans go back to where they came from. We have the firepower to do it right. We could have a hundred Moseses leading the tribes back to teach those primitives how to be REAL Americans.
Zionists want you to blame the Jews and have them take the heat for them.
I find your post spurious and suspicious and i think that
Great comeback, Stinky, but the thing is that the hundreds of nuclear weapons (isn't that Israel's current arsenal?) could indeed be used to kill everyone around, but after a few years? centuries? millennia? the fact would still be that Zionists were stuck believing the ludicrous words of Abraham.
Jesus was at least a decent guy, not a murderer.
Inviting the hysterical Kissling to comment on Catholic matters oh so objective Salon.
Give me a break with the ultra liberal bias already.
This is as informative and objective as having Bill ORiely comment on San Francisco...
PS - I love the part about Opus Dei - so Da Vinci Code! What a great, fact-filled thriller that was!
My family (including my Mom AND my Dad's family) were witnesses to the Holocaust, they all grew up Catholic, and we are hardly agents of AIPAC.
People like you are what ruined the "brand" of white people.
I'm sorry, but I find it hard to believe that he "doesn't get it". He was there when it happened, first as a member of the Hitler Youth, then as part of the German army. I think he knows exactly what the significance of this is.
Of all organized religion and particularly monoliths with hierarchies.
The history of the Catholic Church shows it to be an abomination ....... a business posing as a faith.
I just thought that something stinks was a bit of a bitter jerk. I did not realize he was an out and out holocaust denier. OK, lesson learned, one more Salon Troll(tm) to add to my ignore list.
