The US can and would be forced to force Israel to deal once it became clear that the Palestinians were prepared to REALLY deal (not make some temporary arrangement from which to continue the fight later).
You have the relationship exactly backward, the US does what Israel wants, not vise-versa. Show me the mainstream politician in the US who is critical of Israel.
I stand by my post.
israelis support the gaza offensive for the same reason the germans supported the polish offensive, they both wanted living room from weak foes. you could explain the polish offensive by citing the way ww1 ended but not in truth.
...as one bushite commented (can't rmemeber their name) is as one Bushite put it, just a piece of Paper, or is that the American Constituition? Perhaps it's just a big conjob to make us all scared of the big bad bogymen of Arab lands as we in the west steal their oil, kill their children at a rate unprecedented in history and make out we are the victims. Remember that woamn who after the WTC bomb asked, "Why do they hate us so much?" Well because we hate them I suppose as we kill their children. Drill that into your heads. 90 weak, innocent and fearful children have be killed by Israel's invasion of Gaza and no doubt more to come. I look at my boy, 3 years old, here in safe and sunny Australia and he has Jewish blood, but does he deserve to die for the sins of his father? NO! STOP KILLING CHILDREN YOU HEARTLESS, RUTHLESS MURDERING BASTARDS! ALL OF YOU. STOP THE KILLING NOW, THERE IS NO RATIONAL JUSTIFICATION FOR KILLING A CHILD. NONE. AND YOU STUPID FAT AMERICANS GET OFF YOUR ARSES STOP DEBATING THIS SHIT AND DEMAND YOUR SHINY NEW PRESIDENT PUT AN END TO THIS MASSACRE OF CHILDREN, CHILDREN CHILDREN. STOP THE WAR!
Israelis do not tolerate casualties.
If diaspora Jews were at risk of being murdered for every Palestinian killed - the genocide would CEASE. I mean immediately.
1 Dead Jew in, say, Canoga Park or Brussels - for every dead Palestinian.
The war would be over... and Israelis and Diaspora Jews would learn that COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT CUTS BOTH WAYS
1 Dead Jew in, say, Canoga Park or Brussels - for every dead Palestinian.
I take it you're volunteering to shoot them, Herr Fuhrer?
It seems strange that our "leaders" have no problem whatsoever with Israel's "foray" (again) into Gaza. But woe to Russia, for doing similar to Georgia. Wake up, Washington! There's next to NO oil in israel! The Holy Grail -- i.e., the stuff to keep your SUV moving, is in RUSSIA! But wait a minute; I thought that not so long ago, Twig's administration pumped $500 MILLION of our money into a "free" election among the Palestinians -- one that ELECTED Hamas!! Verrrry interesting.
the Geneva convention should be modified to define acceptable engagement versus an enemy who engages in illegal guerrilla war.
It seems to me that Israel is being held to an impossible standard, because there is no standard of engagement when your enemy launches attacks from civilian areas, doesn't wear a uniform, etc, etc. These things are illegal under Geneva, but Geneva doesn't exactly spell out any alternatives, other than to sit back and wait to die.
-- Renegade Iconoclast
Actually, the conventions do specify exactly who is to blame for civilian deaths in these circumstances, it's the group neither in uniform and firing from civilian areas.
The real problem isn't what's laid out in the Conventions, it's how they are written. They really only address combat between armies.
While technically by law, Hamas is to blame for any civilian deaths caused by retaliation by their attacks. It's not as if there are non-civilian areas in Gaza either. Plus, if there were, it's not as if in open combat Hamas stands a chance.
The Geneva conventions need to be reworked to address none State actions, but won't be exactly easy, because many States fund non-States groups to further their agenda. They like the status quo.
The Arabs and the Jews can continue to slaughter each other if they must. However, under no circumstances should the United States of America support or subsidize either side in this never-ending tribal warfare.
because they knew the US would not and could not support them if they did.
Xanthro and Renegade Iconoclast,
If you think you are helping, you are not. If you think your bullying, slandering, name calling, and emotional belly-aching is helping the world to see Israel and Jewry as peaceful, fair, and good, you are doing the exact opposite.
First of all, I am merely expressing an opinion, a feeling, shared by many I have spoken to, who are either too afraid or too ashamed to say the same things. Except other Jews.
They are afraid because of bullies like yourselves, Abe Foxman, and Alan Dershowitz. People who destroy other people's reputations and lives for simply being honest, and open, and wanting to have an open, peaceful discussion.
They are ashamed because of the fallacious arguments that they have been taught as to what constitutes racism and hatred
When I said "in my opinion, most of the Jews I have seen in the past 20 years are racist and elitist," that does not constitute racism, and it does not constitute hate. It is merely my world experience. Perhaps I live in a small town, and live next to assholes who are Jewish. Perhaps I only watch right-wing televisions and listen to right-wing radio.
A person's experience cannot be racist. A person's experience cannot be hate. Racism and hatred are a projection, an action, a thought process that is initiated, constructed, and acted upon in the real world. A person's experience is none of those.
If you went to another planet of green and purple people, had dinner at a restaurant, and a group of purple people assaulted you and your family, and then came to back to Earth, and you said "Most of the purple people I met were violent and mean," are you racist?
