Why Israelis support the Gaza offensive

Israel's post-traumatic war is not just about stopping Hamas rockets, but about repairing reputations -- and erasing the stain of failure.

The letters thread is now closed.

I have been to your holy land

and it is not holy.

I have seen how the Palestinians are treated. Corraled, like animals, forced to live in shtetles with little food, medicine or water. They can barely see the sun shine over that wall you've built around her. Women in labor die regularly at the Israeli checkpoints that dot Palestinian territory. They are not entitled to the most basic level of human dignity.

So it is amazing to me that Israel and its supporters TO THIS DAY refuse to acknowledge that the rage Arabs feel toward it is the direct result of Israel's sickening BEHAVIOR. She acts like a spoiled, overgrown bully and then expects those that she persecutes to thank her for it as they cower.

If you had to live everyday of your life as a Palestinian, wouldn't you feel like grabbing hold of a rock or lobbing a rocket? Or would you thank your persecutor?

dick dworkin

for the forseeable future no Jew will be able to live like a human being in an Arab or Moslem dominated society and there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that could have been done in the past 50 or 100 years that would have changed that.

But they often did, up until 1948.

Or at about as well as you wish Arabs to live in Israel anyway, as second class citizens.

Reversed statements without reversing the circumstances

Typical of the false equivalencies spouted off by the blind True Believers.

Again, you lie. I said nothing of the sort, the closest I came to anything like that was that I reversed your own statement to show you, again, how hypocritical you are.

Yeah, I'm such a hypocrite because I don't condemn one parasite, Egypt, as harshly as I condemn another parasite, our Stalwart Ally in the middle east, Israel, but merely condemn them. So, Egypt is the country that is dropping bombs on Gaza? Egypt is the country that is using all those fancy US Taxpayer founded toys to murder civilians? Wow, that is breaking news. It's too bad that Egypt is a puppet guarding a fence for the Empire.

Get over yourself.

Like I said earlier, your mealy-mouthed pro-Israel arguments are not even worth discussing. But hey, maybe all of the brainwashed pro-Israel defenders that reflexively belch up the usual talking point tripe really believe the half-truths and one-sided arguments they are making. Too bad. It's your problem not mine.

or maybe it was Hamas?

But whoever it is, I'm not critical enough of them and need to stop picking on poor victim Israel!

no Jew, or any other non moslem, EVER WAS ANYTHING OTHER THAN A SLAVE in a Moslem dominated society EVER

since the founding is Islam up until this minute. The ONLY PLACE IN THE WORLD when there is even something approaching real citizenship for members of minority religions is in western secular societies.

Back atcha

How's that glass house you live in?

Your mealy-mouthed pro-Hamas arguments are not even worth discussing. But hey, maybe all of the brainwashed pro-Hamas defenders that reflexively belch up the usual talking point tripe really believe the half-truths and one-sided arguments they are making. Too bad. It's your problem not mine.

Because using loaded terms like "fertilizer rocket", "open air jail", accusing the other side of bad faith without addressing anything they say, and inventing arguments for your opponent is sooooo completely original.

Maybe you should take some of your own advice and get over yourself.

Jew Haters hate being called out

At any time throw in "Jew hating" and antisemitism to bolster the argument, it will come either immediately or eventually.

And that is how you make a pro-Israel debate out of anything remotely critical of Israel.

-- Chris Sinnard

No, Jew Hater is thrown at those who hate Jews. You try to disguise it as Anti-Israel, or Anti-Zionism, but its Jews you have a problem with.

Like any country, there's much to criticize about Israel, but you don't engage in legitimate criticism, what you do is paint everything as anti-Israeli is possible.

Rocket attacks are dismissed as homemade, or that not enough Jews have been killed by them.

If any faction of the Mexican government lobbed a missile at the US, all hell would break loose. No country would allow such an attack to go unanswered.

Yet, Israel must (because its Jewish and you think Jews should die.)

Israels bedouin policy is horrible, attacking the American University in Gaza (it has no actual connection to the US) was stupid.

But it's not details such as this you find offensive, instead, you and your brethren want to compare Israel to Nazi Germany, and advance claims of genocide when nothing of the sort has taken place.

What you cannot stand, is Jews having the power to fight back.

Don't mess with the Zohan

would be good TV for Israelis and Palestinians.

@Chris Sinnard, ya.......

That is what I'm saying.

Why Palestine?

Palestine was a natural choice for Jewish refugees. The problem was those pesky natives who were in the way. European Isrealis thought they should be shoved into the desert as they took over the prime real estate on the Mediterranean, wells, groves....

And those Arabs didn't go for such a deal? Why didn't the Zionists throw in a couple pounds of beads while they were at it?

If Isreal wanted peace, Isreal could have peace, but it would involve admitting that Palestinians didn't just up and leave because the Arabs told them to, or that they have a legitimate claim to their own homes.

Whining about hate to everyone that points out that this is your basic real estate war (how many wars aren't?) becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Every human on this planet comes from history. Every. Single. One. Welcome to history. No one has ownership over it.

My point precisely. If Kristol says invasion will work, it won't, like clockwork.

First a Jew free middle east

Then a Jew free world. In'shallah and Salon bless you.

My great great grandaddy lost his home to the Ottoman Empire, then my granddaddy lost his to the commies

Maybe Israel can demand reparations from Egypt for Slavery.

Maybe all the people in Darfur can demand their land back too.

Maybe the Berbers can fight to kick out the arab invaders of North Africa

Maybe someone will free Tibet

Maybe everyone will just get over the past and move on

enough hate. enough.

this is not about anti-Israeli sentiments, it is about the monstrosity of war, of innocents being slaughtered. there is no country, no state that can receive censure for such acts from those of us who see and feel.

how can anyone who sees the sheer amount being killed on one side believe any longer that Israel truly values the sanctity of human life? is not every life a precious thing?

how can we now empathize with the plight of Israel when they continue to kill so many innocents?

i always thought Israel to be a chosen people, dependent on God's will. now i wonder how they could have strayed so far, to become that which they most feared.
