Why Israelis support the Gaza offensive

Israel's post-traumatic war is not just about stopping Hamas rockets, but about repairing reputations -- and erasing the stain of failure.

    Not OK

It's not OK to kill people in order to make yourself feel better -- or more powerful, or more in control, or to "erase the stain the failure." That's what psychopaths do.

When it comes to Israel, otherwise reasonable people lose their heads and start acting like teenagers at a brawl. Here we have Mayor Bloomberg running around Israel explaining that it's just fine for Israel to attack another country and claiming that the New York police department would do the same. Sure. Exactly when has New York's finest ever invaded a foreign nation? Never, of course. After 9/11 it was the U.S. military who responded -- not very wisely as it turns out. But the point is that the NYPD responded on the ground to the immediate situation, but had no hand in any military response. Bloomberg's idiotic ramblings are just one example of the level of sloppy, emotional, ultimately violent thinking that makes Israel such a danger to itself and others.
