Why Israelis support the Gaza offensive

Israel's post-traumatic war is not just about stopping Hamas rockets, but about repairing reputations -- and erasing the stain of failure.

    Checkpoints

EatingRaul You are a source of endless ignorant bullshit. The checkpoints are actually manned mostly by reservists and not regular army, and the reservist are quite older and if anything, even more racist than the youngsters you ignorantly claimed are manning the checkpoints.

Trying to get through the wall of text here.

Most of the IDF I've seen manning checkpoints are younger, and as you know, all Israeli Jews are reservist.

Does the fact that statistically, one out of many thousands of Palestinians might be foolish enough to try and go through a checkpoint with an explosive belt justify the humiliating of an entire population?

Show me where I've even hinted as such, I've stated the exact opposite. How many times must I type that such acts are even contrary to security? What part of that don't you understand?

It's idiotic to treat a populace that way, and it only makes things worse in the long run.

All we differ on is motivation. You state that it's all racism, while I state that fear is involved as well. Even giving examples of how that fear affects policies in the USA when the threat of violence is much lower.

For your information, the suicide bombers manage to sneak into Israel away from the checkpoints and the reason they have stopped is due to the security fence, not the checkpoints, another thing you are ignorant of.

I'm fully aware that the "security fence" has reduced the number of bombers, but the fence itself has issues. It cuts off people from their homes and farms, it revokes memories of the Berlin war, no matter that it's to keep people out rather than in, and it complicates a settlement because it looks like de facto borders.

Your ignorance of the situation is stunning and embarrassing. Why would you comment on an issue you zero about?

It's your obtuseness that is embarrassing. Even after agreeing with you, you seek argument where there is none, you seek to find ignorance because something hasn't been stated even.

Had I mentioned the fence first, I'm quite sure you would have jumped on me for that, despite the fact I understand both its good and bad points.
