This man manages to write this article as if the use of military force occurs in a vacuum, and as if Palestinian civilians are pac man dots in a game of Israel wrestling with its own issues of military power.
Its strange to me that the editor of Haaretz mentions Islamic extremism and Iran as reasons that Hamas attacks Israel.
Could it be that Israel has the occupied territories in an economic, territorial, and cultural stranglehold? Could it be that Israel controls the power, water, highways, trade, borders, and cities of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank?
Could it be that the rose gardens are blooming in Israel while the Palestinians worry about such things 'what can I eat' or 'will I have power tonight'?
Could it be that Palestinians are Arabs in Israel are treated like second class citizens? Could it be that Palestinians and Arabs have seen their houses demolished, villages, destroyed, livelihoods erased, etc.?
Could it be that the longest modern military occupation in history has one group living off the fat of the land while the group without high tech weapons and US support are packed in razed and bullet-ridden tenements in 3rd world conditions?
No. Of course not. Hamas attacks because they are crazy Arab Muslims. Duh.
