Did you hear FDR prolonged the Great Depression?

Conservatives' newest talking point -- designed to stop Congress from passing an economic stimulus package -- is breathtaking.

FDR prolonged the Great Depression - fact

What is missing in this propaganda piece is that:

Just about all of FDR’s new deal was found to be unconstitutional.

That the only people getting jobs were in the districts of his supporters, this was very bad cronyism.

FDR had price support so rigged that a tailor was imprisoned for ironing pants 5 cents less then allowed.

The reason WWII ended the depression was that FDR’s New Deal was thrown out, his laws and regulations trashed, and business were let go of many of the shackles he had placed on them.

FDR raised taxes during a recession, and installed protectionist policies thus blocking free trade. GNP levels during the 1930’s was less than those of 1929, only rising above the 1929 level in 1940.

There was also massive reduction in private capital investments. From 1930 to 1940 net private investments was MINUS $3.1 Billion, as Americans failed to add anything to their capital stock. No economy can grow without capital accumulation.
