In Barack we trust? Obama campaigned on his personality and judgment and won. Now, like it or not, he isn't beholden to anyone.

  • Now I'm not sure

I voted for the man. Thought, Brother King's dream has come. We have made it. Now, I'm not sure. He keeps putting in Clinton excabinet members. I don't know about others but I paid out the nose while Clinton was President with his marrage penalty tax, tax on this, tax on that. I am just getting back on track and it is looking like it is all going to be ripped out again. What was I thinking? I know what, I was thinking he is black and that was it. He doesn't even have foregion affairs experience or even any progressive national experience or military experience. I know what I was thinking, the same as ever other person that voted for Obama and is black, he is one of our own. I didn't care if all his brothers birth cirtificates listed them as Arab, he was black and that was all that mattered. I hope I live to regret this blunder.

  • @readerreader: you represent the dying, mad Republicans so well.

Mrs. Palin exposed herself to the entire world as wilfully ignorant and hostile. Only a madman would think that a lifetime of mental laziness could be reversed - particularly when the very reason that her fans like her is this ignorance and hostility.

As for "people who wanted Mr. Obama to win did not want to hear anything so unpleasant as friendships with bombers" - get a grip on yourself!

I assume you're talking about Mr. Ayers. Who are the other "bombers"? Don't have any other names?

Mr. Obama sat in the living room of Mr. Ayers - as Obama did with tens of thousands of other people trying to win the Presidency. These is every bit of evidence that they are basically total strangers that happened to be in the same place at the same time. This is one of the most investigated associations of my lifetime - and nothing was there. If you have the information, give it to us now. Otherwise, shut up - we've heard this a thousand times, there's nothing there.

And Mr. Ayers did... what? Some property damage forty years ago to protest an unjust war that killed two *million* Vietnamese who did *nothing* to hurt us? The Bush administration started a phoney war that killed hundreds of thousands and created death camps, for God's sake!

There has to be something wrong in your head to be obsessed with this insignificant connection between Mr. Obama and a minor political figure who never hurt anyone.

Palin, Ayers - no one else cared except a few loonies like you. Grow up, already!

I'd pity you, because the next four years are going to be pretty hard on you - but your team caused this, made this happen, reviled us when we tried to point out the problems, behaved (and continue to behave, as per your letter) like spoiled children. But a lot of other people are going to suffer, so I'll be very glad that at least in your case it's justified.

(Not that I think Mr. Obama is any great shakes as a progressive. Sigh.)

  • he isn't beholden to anyone

If you think that statement is true, think again. His campaign had over $500m left over when he was elected. That kind of money, plus the money spent like 24/7 commercials about him on DISH network, is not money donated by Joe Blow or even Joe The Plummer. That's big time, possibly even foregion donations not listed (Illegal). Nope, big money was paid and big money will collect. Could even be the reason Clinton people are going back into office. We will get pulled out of Iraq and go back to thumping terrorist on the head, like in Bosina (we are still in Bosnia? YES) just as the Clinton bunglers did. Maybe even blow up another asprin plant or two. I am begining to think that this is going to be a big hands off certain groups not to be mention. Amy idiot that cannot see that is an idiot indeed. Big money gets what it wants when it has beeen paid for.

  • Somebody has to be President

As I read the readers who are pro Obama or the future Palin, it reminds me of my huge extended family Thanksgiving dinner table.

The majority of the pro-Republican side did not have a clue about government policy or whom actually represented what. People were labeled liberal or conservative. (I asked someone to define liberal and they pointed at me.) My Republican relatives thought it was no big deal that Sarah did not know about the Bush doctrine, because, hell, they didn't either. Generally, they know a lot about football or fashion, but little or nothing about government. But, hey, my brother knows Sarah is HOT.

As for the Obama people, some of us knew a lot about the issues. A couple of the younger Obama voters were into celebrities and voting for Obama because he was 'cool.' Some would never vote for Palin because she was just stupid. Tina Fey was so good at copying her. (Think about that conservatives.)

One Republican really knew the issues. An older person, world wise, and someone who despised the waste of the new Deal Era. However, that person voted for Obama because he recognized wisdom and thought the new conservatives had gone mad.

Maybe one out of five people voted on issues. My extended family is about as American as they come, a cross section of education and values, work ethic and politics. We were evenly divided between Obama and McCain.

It became so obvious to me our President is decided on who can win the popularity contest. Forget policy, forget facts, forget anything else. No wonder Obama won, he was just so damn much more appealing than the conservatives. Heaven help us if the Republicans ever pick Carrie Underwood for President.

  • Jesus, calm down already.

They guy hasn't even taken office yet and everybody's already writing the big stories...Disappointment!...Betrayal!...More of the Same!...Messiah!...Not a Messiah!...Lots of Capital Letters!

It might pay to wait until he is actually, you know, like President or something to pass judgment. By all means, we need to advocate for policies and people, praise or criticize as needed, but let's hold off on the analysis of things that have not yet happened.
