In Barack we trust?

Obama campaigned on his personality and judgment and won. Now, like it or not, he isn't beholden to anyone.

    Somebody has to be President

As I read the readers who are pro Obama or the future Palin, it reminds me of my huge extended family Thanksgiving dinner table.

The majority of the pro-Republican side did not have a clue about government policy or whom actually represented what. People were labeled liberal or conservative. (I asked someone to define liberal and they pointed at me.) My Republican relatives thought it was no big deal that Sarah did not know about the Bush doctrine, because, hell, they didn't either. Generally, they know a lot about football or fashion, but little or nothing about government. But, hey, my brother knows Sarah is HOT.

As for the Obama people, some of us knew a lot about the issues. A couple of the younger Obama voters were into celebrities and voting for Obama because he was 'cool.' Some would never vote for Palin because she was just stupid. Tina Fey was so good at copying her. (Think about that conservatives.)

One Republican really knew the issues. An older person, world wise, and someone who despised the waste of the new Deal Era. However, that person voted for Obama because he recognized wisdom and thought the new conservatives had gone mad.

Maybe one out of five people voted on issues. My extended family is about as American as they come, a cross section of education and values, work ethic and politics. We were evenly divided between Obama and McCain.

It became so obvious to me our President is decided on who can win the popularity contest. Forget policy, forget facts, forget anything else. No wonder Obama won, he was just so damn much more appealing than the conservatives. Heaven help us if the Republicans ever pick Carrie Underwood for President.
