Is it OK to be liberal again, instead of progressive? Come out of the closet, liberals. Stop using the fashionable euphemism "progressive" and relaunch the old, tarnished L-word.

  • Please, be serious

Does anyone really believe it's the end of the conservative movement because of this last election? Oh, you mean like it was the beginning of the conservative movement that would last 30 years according to brother Newt. And how did this all happen I mean how did those mean old Republicans get voted into office in a landslide election (like the one the Dems. just pulled off)? Well it had a lot to do with the fact Clinton was impeached for lying to Congress (you remember the wagging finger). He did that and then didn't get the boot he so richly deserved. And that is your history lesson for the evening.

President Bush made some poor judgement calls to be sure and surround himself with 'yes' people. The Republicans (like the Democrats) got so full of themselves they thought they could do no wrong. Both parties were wrong and the Democrats never got a luckier break during this last election than when they didn't win a super majority in congress. Had that happened they would probably have done what history says politicians always do because when all is said and done we're not so different and are all greedy for power.

  • Conservative Liberal

What is this fixation on labels? Using the current definitions, I am a conservative liberal Democrat.

One of the benefits of electing Barack Obama and Joe Biden is that their administration will help redefine politics from the social combat it has been to a genuine political discourse that values all viewpoints - or that is the hope!

Clinton detractors will be busy in the coming weeks, but in their hearts all must admit Senator Hillary Clinton will be a formidable secretary of state in the Obama-Biden administration. That acknowledgement will serve to diminish the importance of the offensive side of national politics and enlarge discussions both nationally and internationally about possibilities from a new American foreign policy.

  • For just a while, just forget about the labels...

...and get to the real work.

    This will involve:

    1. Defining just what it is you guys want your government and your nation to do over the next 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, ....

(Because, for better or for worse, the US is still the world's superpower, what you guys do will sizably determine what and how the rest of the world will do as well. I do hope that you and your leaders will seek to do wise things, in contrast to GW Bush and Gang, who deliberately went out of their way at each point to do exactly the most foolish [and even criminal] things that they could find to do!)

    2. Working out, from day to day, just what it is that needs to be done to accomplish what you (and we in the rest of the world) want finally to achieve (in some measure at least) over the next 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, ....

(It's not impossible to do this kind of thing, in a very natural, human sort of way. I personally have great hopes that your President-to-be Barack Obama is one US leader who will genuinely try to get things right).

Doing the above will involve thinking and working in dimensions way beyond these simplistic labels like 'liberal'; 'progressive'; 'conservative', and the like (most of which only help to prevent people from thinking deeply enough about real issues at hand).

I notice that one reader came up with the interesting concatenation "conservative liberal". Use any darned label you choose, so long as you really work to get the things done that really need to get done. There are a huge number of very difficult things to do after these disastrous eight years of GW Bush and Gang.

Now, how to decide just what are the things to get done, how to use your resources and time most effectively - in such a way that you don't get swamped under?

  • The brilliant scientist talking about meaning, attribution and God touches on why Pwogwessivism/Liberalizm is basically klueless

He points out that we can have no idea what the earth's biosphere will be like tens of thousands of years from now.

And, more importantly for those alive in the here and now, we can never predict the effects of our political and economic decisions even in the near future.

As the great philosopher, Yogi Berra, said: "It's tough to make predictions...

    ...especially about the future."

Yet, libralz are crazy about centrally planned nirvanas which always end up being nightmares.

They want to reorganize society with impossible plans to tax and spend and remake society with collectivism and redistribution. This planing is all hubris because it ignores the basic facts of human nature:

Bullies will bully until we stand up to them. Many will keep after you until you sock them in the face and knock them down and defeat them. This applies to other nations. Endless talking and compromising and negotiation is a sign of weakness. If people and other nations do not respect your strength they will trash and conquer you.

    Hello!

All of these idle dreams and illusions you libralz hold so dear would work just fine if we humans were not often lazy, greedy, selfish, ignoramuses.

So, instead of utopia, you get Cheekago: Lots of graft, lots of unnecessary city and county workers collecting paychecks for doing mostly hangin' out and rounding up voters once or twice a year. You get taxes on everything going up all the time so there's very little left over for you and your kids. You get the connected getting fat government contracts. You get the connected running huge gooberment pension plans, after they slip the right guyz a lot of dough.

In, short liberalz/Pwogwesseves must totally ignore the repeated rotten consequences of all of their talking and taxing and spending. They must ignore the fundamental corruptions which sap and rob us all of our best human qualities such as pride, and honor, and discipline and merit. They just keep making the same mistakes over and over, and these repeated mistakes weaken us all and weaken our country and our resolve.

I see it as just a big power game. Alpha Democrats get paid by the alpha gazillion aires to protect their wealth stashed away in their trusts, foundations and offshore holdings.

Yet, they must pay for all of their wonderful plans so they tax the rest of us poor schmucks who work for a living. They tax us to death, my fems, while gazillion-aires like Corzine plead for federal money to bail out the bloated state and local governments.

    So, please STOP.

    I know you mean well.

    Just think about it, OK?

Your brain won't explode if you think about it a little bit.
