I will not go quiet into the dark night. What a weasel. Mickliz
This trade agreement doesn't even contribute to our national economy three quarters of one percent and above all sets a very demoralizing tone to the workers of America that their voice has not been heard. We'd rather eat beans and rice for the next four years before accepting a Bush exit deal.
Does Bush ever think about what is best fot our country?
...because he's resigning his Senate seat as of Sunday, before the lame-duck session convenes to hammer out the auto industry bailout.
Can we hope that after he resigns he'll take a leadership position on this as president-elect?
Obama *should* say no, but he won't...
I think Bush simply wants to polish his legacy. He's desperate for any shred of accomplishment he can walk away with, and he's invested in this trade deal.
Well Bush has done all he you could for 8 years why stop now. And i am sure the bashing of the liberal illuminati have only ticked him off more. He's gonna go out kicking and screaming for sure. No other way, not for Bush!
Bush my try, but the new populist Democrats won't deal. They came into Congress on anti-NAFTA, andti-globalization platforms. This is DOA.
If Bush vetos that economic stimulus package it will pass over the veto. Or Obama will simply wait until January, and allow rural Republicans 3 months of pain while pointing at Bush.
No brainer.
Why would Democrats even consider selling out their middle and working class constituents by agreeing to such a boneheaded deal? The only answer I can come up with is - campaign money. Unfortunately, Ralph Nader is correct in many ways about both of the major political parties.
Here we go agian. Bush has yet one more trick left in him before america can say goodbye. This is why we must stand up and demand change. If we do not speak out we will aways have to lift the rock off of us. This man is an outrage to the way of life through out the world. He and his kronies will live forever in the best of things and we the common people of the world will always have their foot on our neck. So, when do we as a people get enough of this? When do we say i am going to kick your ass? Is life so good that we are just going to let him get aways with killing us? Do we not have balls enough to tell are congressmen and reps. we will not stand for it anymore? America we are comming up weak as a people, this i never would have thought i would say. Yet we sit here like sheep and continue to let these guys do whatever they dam well please!! BUSH MUST GO TO JAIL...............
Um, this is the North American Free Trade Agreement, as in it includes all of North America, as in, it includes Canada. I know that that rarely crosses 'murkin pundit minds, but there it is.
Um, do we benighted igloo dwellers you all take for granted get a vote in this thing? Just askin', being your biggest trading partners by several orders of magnitude, and all.
Now we understand that in US politics NAFTA stands for "Mexicans and other brown people south of us" but in reality, after the thorough fucking over Canadian (government subsidized) lumber mills have received under NAFTA (in combat with US massively subsidized lumber mills), it might just come to your attention that, gosh, your Northern Neighbors might actually get a vote on this? Even a teeny tiny one? Because they might not be totally disinclined to suck US dick at every negotiation? (Well, given the complexion of the current Canadian government, a little head might not be out of the question.)
Obamaa, we might even be a little pissed off? You know, the dudes on the other side of the lake from Chicago. We actually exist, dag-nabbit.
So, no, this is not really a unilateral deal. The Monroe doctrine has actually blossomed, to the point that the New World and the United States are not actually synonymous any more. Gotta learn to live with that. Brazil will keep on kicking your ass at volleyball and soccer, and probably baseball too for that matter, for the foreseeable future, for instance.
It is kinda sad when the best the US can do in swinging its dick is problematical in its own backyard, instead of say West Germany or South Korea or, god forbid, South Vietnam or Iraq.
Just sayin'
Technically Michigan is across the lake from Chicago, but I hear you. I honestly don't know why the Dems would go along with this. What Congress has to do at this point is look concerned and wait 60 days and try again when they don't need a supermajority. If there is to be an expansion of CAFTA, there is no reason to do it now.
What I would like to see, but I won't, is some recognition that Canada exists and has an interest in some of these discussions. I'm happy to hear that your government has announced that it is interested in having Canada participate in the restructuring of the auto-industry. I hope its gesture is not ignored. Its not like Detroit is the only city in the world that stands to lose if the auto industry fails. Forcing the automakers to repatriate jobs to Detroit is certainly is not going to help relations with Canada.
I actually think Canada could be useful to the auto industry rescue. If the Canadians would agree to take one of our companies off our hands, it would help restore confidence in the product almost instantly. Let's say the Fed offered guarantees for a loan by CBIC for Canada to buy Ford. Ford is then reincorporated as a Canadian company with headquarters in Windsor. Many many people are saying that American Cars are not as good in quality as foreign cars. Ford, because it would become a Canadian company, would be foreign - ergo any perceived quality issues would disappear and the Lincoln Continental would again be a prestige make that would compete with BMW.
Please write your PM. Only Canada can save us.
