Why progressives should keep organizing on MyBarackObama.com

Some Obama supporters say we should disband our FISA group now that the vote is past. I disagree. If progressives are silent, the campaign will take us for granted.

The letters thread is now closed.

Does it even matter anymore?

I know there are a lot of differences between McCain and Obama, differences that could materially affect peoples lives, long term in America.

But I can't help but feel that if Obama supports our govt letting corporations break the law and then immunize them, even before charges are brought, who cares? Nothing really matters to me after that. Our democracy is a now an open sham, and I should just count myself lucky I'm allowed to live with a modicum of freedom, if no actual privacy or representation, and hope I'm not killed by a crappy product. If this is what we get from someone like Obama then the excitement for what he represented is gone. Apathy returning.

Note: Still prefer him to HRC.

Why in the world

stand around flogging a dead horse? Obama betrayed everything we stand for, threw us into the garbage once our funds and help were no longer needed. What can possibly make you think that he;s gonna listen to us about anything, after a flip-flop this monumental?

If we want to put pressure on the campaign, we need to let Obama know that we're not tied to his election. As for me, I'd rather see an evil old reactionary like McCain win than see our causes sold out by the very candidate we counted on, sweated for and supported. If McCain wins, at least we can plan for a total disaster. If Obama wins, we'll never know when another of our hard won civil rights will get in the way of politics as usual and be tossed onto the trash heap.

Want to make a difference? Withdraw from the Obama campaign, with a note telling the staff exactly why you've decided that a man who will sell us out once will do it again, and that better the evil we know than evil we thought was a friend. Get in touch with Dean and the DNC, DEMAND a reopening of the delegate count. Pull all support from the Democratic committees to elect new Dems from the Congress and Senate, call the names of the traitors that voted for FISA in the letter you send telling them why you're withdrawing. Do your best to make sure that the only way they raise another dime is if they find it laying on the asphalt.

This is important, people. Warrantless wiretapping and eavesdropping attacks the Constitution in a way no one has tried since Nixon. No matter what, we HAVE to bring this to an end now, before the inteligence community in the US makes the KGB look like a kids game. Whatever it takes, that's what we need to do.

Let us keep all channels of communication open

We need to keep all channels of communication open.

Senator Obama needs to hear from us. Policy is a

result of dialogue. We are the people who provide

the ideas for good policy.

This does not need to be negative or harsh. Just

well reasoned thinking. Out of such thought comes

good policy.

Senator Obama needs to hear when we agree or disagree

with him. Let us not get into the mistaken notion

that criticism is bad. Our country was founded on

critical thought. Sound argument, good dialogue

are the basis for sharp and clear thinking.

Think of us as a family at a dinner table where there

is strong but respectful disagreement. From such tension

are great ideas born and nourished.

Your heads in the sand

If you think Obama has moved to the center you were not paying attention.

As along time Democrat,a progressive and an Obama supporter I will continue to give Obama money. For many us us older progressives he is the best Democrat we have seen in decades and I still believe it. Obama won't yank us back for the right,he will pull us slowly with a long rope.

Frankly to base you whole decision to PUNISH Obama on his final FISA vote is outrageous and frankly very immature. This is exactly why we have ended up with right wing republicans in office and why progress has been so slow on important issues. Both the left and right have their feet firmly planted and won't to compromise. This country has made the most progress with bipartisanship. I'm not interested in GETTING the telecoms and its a little late to be GETTING Bush. Your all starting to sound like the ANGRY Clinton voters

One of the reasons Obama has gotten so much support is not just from left leaning blogging liberals. It is older progressives, independents, and yes some republicans. Obama supporters are excited about Obama because he talks about Unity, and not just unity for the left. It is stubborn positions on both the right and left voters are sick of.

Yes, I think it is good to keep the blog going, but how about trying to unite people instead of dividing them. Your handing the election to McCain if you do not vote,if you vote for an independent or you stop donating.

Yes it matters

The current beneficiaries of the status quo want you to slide back into apathy. We are all imagining the fall of the American Republic in our whiny little minds. Just keep draining your wallet and your rights.

The Founders of this country pretty much got their asses kicked up and down the thirteen colonies by the British for years. That's what it took to get this country started. Any real change will not be easy.

We should keep the pressure up on Obama. And I agree with the LT on this one. The threat of un-election is pretty much the only weapon of the electorate against politicians. As much as I like Pelosi, we have to start holding politicians accountable.
