Why Obama should NOT pick Hillary Clinton as veep

He would lose his claim to being the candidate of change -- and probably wouldn't get any swing states in return.

The letters thread is now closed.

A little late, but ...

Reason No. 1 why Clinton should not be Obama's running mate: He might win.

The problem isn't with Clinton as a vice-presidential candidate; her appeal is strong and she would add votes to the ticket. If she can't turn red states blue, then at least she could solidify some awfully important blue states -- maybe even swinging Ohio and Michigan.

However, what Clinton may add to the ticket, she detracts as a Vice President. The last thing an Obama Administration will need is a Veep who many will perceive as a No. 1 -- bringing with her a spouse who was a No. 1. Would she, or the former President, be a "team player" in an Obama Administration? If there's an internal dispute over policy approaches, would it undermine Obama's initiatives? It seems like a wholly unworkable scenario.

@MoCrash

You and Salon are absolutely wrong to claim that Hillary's appeal is strong.

Many of her later votes were Rush Limbaugh fans. Others were people voting for her simply because she was white. She played on both of these to the maximum extent possible.

That doesn't add up to appeal.

Besides, there are lots of people, like me, who wouldn't vote for an Obama ticket if Hillary is on it as well. One, because of the many, many reasons already stated as to how awful she would be in the position, and two, because I think she'd murder him within the first 6 months in office, should this hellish ticket actually manage to win.

The people who claim most loudly that Hillary would never murder a human being for her own power forgive and applaud her enthusiastic murder of a million innocent Iraqis for the same end. To her and them, it would be just one more, and since it's not even a white person, it doesn't even count towards getting into heaven.

In case you hadn't noticed, I don't have the highest opinion of people who commit mass murder for power. Hillary crossed that line a long time ago, and has never looked back. Most of her supporters don't realize (yet) that they too have crossed that line.

Any other older white politician will do ?

Today we are reading that another congressman is leaked to be on Obama's short list. No one writes about Obama's message of change being diluted . It is OK for Hagel to be announced as a possible Veep but Hillary Clinton , the woman, the candiddate with the most popular vote in the primaries is not good enough.

My grandmother used to say "time is longer than twine". Meaning that with time all things will be revealed. As time goes along we begin to see the biases of politicians and journalists who are afraid to stand and be countted as prejudiced anti -woman supporters but will hide behind irresponsible polemic crap trying to sound eloquent, while justiying a lie.

I am waiting for the thesis to be written, if and when Obama chooses any human over 45 years as his Veep that is not named Hillary Clinton. That thesis must begin with: "He will reclaim his sobriquet as CANDIDATE OF CHANGE". We will be waiting Mr. Thomas F. Schiller.

She's nowhere near good enough

... and no, she didn't win the popular vote. As a resident of a caucus state, I'm disgusted she had the temerity to claim that my vote shouldn't count. Fuck her and whichever of her highly paid consultants came up with that vicious lie. She wanted to count every vote except mine and a few million other people's.

That alone means she's not good enough. Let her stay out of the spotlight, as she has been.

She won't be good enough in 2012, either, because now too many people are onto her game, and she'll be shut out. Unless, of course, she had some intention of doing her job, which was always doubtful at best. She can do that, and maybe even try doing it well.

But thanks for playing.

Voters

Re: "Many of her later votes were Rush Limbaugh fans."

First of all, you don't know that. Secondly, who cares. A vote is vote.

The economy is really bad and many people who might have otherwise voted Republican will not vote for them this time around. There is no reason to believe that those who voted for Hillary in the primary would not have voted for her in the GE.

Nonsense, karen22

"There is no reason to believe that those who voted for Hillary in the primary would not have voted for her in the GE."

There is all kinds of evidence suggesting that Limbaugh's legions of mouth-breathing morons made the popular vote difference in Ohio and Texas, at least.

Hillary knew this. She knew many of the people voting for her hated her with a white-hot burning passion and would never in a million years vote for her in the GE.

Besides, like I said, Hillary's "new math" (and there, she played into the sexist notion that girls are really bad at math) required disenfranchising me and millions of other people living in the caucus states.

She'll never get my vote for anything.

Well, I shouldn't be so categorical on it. She would certainly get my vote if she behaved in an ethical fashion, and demonstrated that her top priority is the public good.

But, as of course we know, she won't do either of those things. Her supporters don't even demand she give up her love of racial mass murder in order to earn their eternal affection.

Why Obama should NOT pick Hillary for veep

Because she won't let him... Hillary only sees what she wants to see; says only what she wants to say; hears only what she wants to hear.

Those are the factors of her being. She lives in denial and oblivion to any/all of her history. She is a 'wanna be' and always has been. She is merely awaiting Obama to continue to flounder now as the democratic nominee-at-large so she can charge forward as the heroine she so strongly sees herself as.

She ignores the fact that her husband was impeached; she and he have been found guilty in several illegal and/or immoral crimes awaiting their sentences due to their political clout... blah blah...

The democratic party once again spent themselves and their creditibility in their search for a candidate. - They have had four (more like eight) solid years to identify a candidate and position him or her as the party nominee (and next President of the U.S.) with unity; instead they chose to show their continued lack of unity on anything and launch a primary race designed to further divide themselves, not on the issues but on race and gender. What a waste. What a shame!

We have no choice, or 'hope', other than to vote for 'wisdom' in the selection of our next U.S. President. Granted that the opposing parties have not put their best foot forward in that regard either, given the proven lack of 'wisdom' (or other skills) by Clinton or Obama (and the entire democratic party (including their Florida (again) and Michigan) snafu's).

Hillary is incapable of being a VP, Obama has no idea or respect for the office of President (or any other office obviously). Even now when 'damage control' should have been set in place and a solid 'platform' established; the dems are still playing 'my dog is bigger than your dog'.
