"I say if Iran screws with us enough, then they deserve what they get."

This was not a Hillary quote but one from the quick change artist Stentor or Stuntor or whatever she is calling herself these days.

  • Great article

Even though it made me slightly queasy... ugh politics! But you bring up some good points. I tip my imaginary hat to you Dan Conley.

  • Reading through the letters...

Here's what I don't get. All the Clinton supporters are saying Obama is unelectable... even though he beat out Hillary Clinton, the front-runner since, what, 2006? Even though he's raised gobs of money, and we have more young people than ever (like myself) thinking of joining Democrats. And all this makes him unelectable?

It's akin to a man exclaiming that gravity doesn't work, and then showing he can jump as proof. :p

Clinton supporters, what about long-term? Do you think the young and AA vote will immediately go back to Clinton?

  • all this bickering

All this bickering is amusing but not conducive to anything. You sanctimonious Obama supporters who act like Clinton is just some freakish Medusa standing in the way of the Anointed One's Anointing are doing far more to split the party, at least here on Salon, than Clinton ever could.

If Obama was just some dude standing in a field, I wouldn't have any problem voting for him. Unfortunately, he is a dude surrounded by the most arrogant, self-righteous, self-obsessed idiots I have ever seen. You can talk about Clinton and how she's standing in the way or reconciliation all you want, but the only thing stopping me from agreeing that Obama is a decent candidate is the pure vitriol and sexist bile his supporters spout.

  • rosen and other Hillary supporters

    Ignore them

I am an Obama supporter and I am equally sickened by their crap. Its disgusting. Its unfortunate that people get so wrapped up and rude...its easy when its behind a computer screen.

Listen, we're all in this together. Hillary will run until she's damn well ready to stop and after that, she'll work her ass off to see the dem elected (she may even be on the ticket, who knows?)

Anyway, don;t be discouraged. The blogosphere is NOT the place to form opinions about either side's supporters. :Let;s be honest. In real life, its a lot less ugly. Take heart.

  • I'd bet good money all the people who wish Hillary would pack it in ......

are still mad at Gore for packing it in and letting Bush in with out much of a fight.

Don't you just wish Gore had fought this hard, and gone the distance? If he had Bush might not have been president. And then again, he might not have, but it would have been a good fight.

I don't like Hillary, and I don't think Obama can beat McCain.

So it doesn't leave me with much hope, just a wish that Gore had been more of a bitch, and hung on.

  • Wesley Clark

The suggestion he be the veep is cringe-inducing. Yeah he's a military guy, but so what? Let's get off this idea a Dem needs a military presense. And while he may be nominally a Democrat, he's probably more conservative than Clinton.

Obama's going to bring minds onto his staff that think farther outside the beltway political boxes than perhaps any new administration ever, so he's going to need a proven progressive VP who can effectively play on that sort of team.

  • negotiations with Clinton

Times have changed and Obama is running as a different kind of candidate. There is nothing Clinton really wants short of the presidency, and she can't be trusted to hold up her end of any bargain. She can raise all the money she needs (and is rich anyway). There will be no substantive deal. Obama would look weak if he gave in to the conditions in the article, and Bill Richardson as VP will help him out the most in winning the election (in a landslide). If she hurts his chances in the general election she will pay a price, not just in legacy, but with a serious primary opponent in her next Senate election.

  • Note

Shawn WM tends to post about the same time that other Republican loon, Proud Texas Girl does. Both pretend to be Hillary Clinton supporters but are obviously Right-wingers trying to sabotage Obama's chances.

  • @jrbrown

"I don't like Hillary, and I don't think Obama can beat McCain."

I agree with half of what you've said, the part about Obama not being able to beat McCain. The far left, which includes far too many who don't just dislike Hillary but would prefer to disembowel her (preferably in public), absolutely refuses to acknowledge the concept of patriotism, something as foreign to them as going to mass thrice daily or sending schmaltzy Hallmark cards.

But guess what? A great many Americans do. And John McCain, the war hero, scores very, very high on the red white & blue. He's the guy who spent, what, five years in a bamboo cage as a POW and has a withered arm as a daily reminder? Contrast this with Barack Obama, married to a woman who thinks this country is downright mean and nasty (even though she's done very, very well for herself). Obama himself hasn't exactly been high on America, past or present (including Bill Clinton's years in the White House, and that surely does take some arrogance).

So, guess who the patriots are going to go for? There's nothing in the Constitution that says you have to be alive upon taking office, is there? On the patriotism front alone, an enbalmed McCain could probably beat Obama hands down.

  • What MaddieP said

    Here, here!

I know it can get heated, but there is no reason to get so personal about it. And I am no fan of Hillary Clinton - but because of her stance on the issues and the campaign she has run. There is no excuse for the personal and misogynistic barbs here.

If you're an Obama supporter, and I am one, you have an obligation to fight a fair fight, we need to strive to be representative of the campaign he is waging. There is a better way and all the mud flinging isn't it. Heated disagreement is fine but damn people, reign it in!
