Not wide, not narrow
Where I come from (raised by a single woman and her mother), "broad" was always used as a term of endearment. And if you were an "old broad", you were really someone special.
-
Also, TRenee
Should Hillary actually want to become Senate Majority Leader, would you be in support of this, or do you prefer to keep Harry Reid?
-
popup timer
the plastic popup in billary's meaty thigh has popped. Up. She's done. Regarding body parts and the appropriateness of language. TRenee, I agree fully that using the "c" word to a woman as an epithet is wrong. However, I do think The Decider is a cunt, a preppie pretend cowpoke who probably actually does poke cows. After Laura's in her cups. So, it's all in the context. George Dumbya is, without doubt, a full fledged cunt, whereas Billary, who is not, is now merely irrelevant, an un-wisdom tooth aching to be pulled.

smith
you didn't ask me, but I'd much prefer clinton to reid. he's a nothingburger with nothing on it. we need someone in the cloakroom to kick ass, take names, and line up votes. I think she's proven the personality traits to deserve a shot.
-
Always classy but not a broad...at least not yet...
I must have had a sex change last night and didn't know it. Oh well, it's a good excuse to buy some new clothes.
-
@ KStone
I must have had a sex change last night and didn't know it. Oh well, it's a good excuse to buy some new clothes.
See ladies? Being shrill isn't specifically a female trait after all!
-
Right on, Ceia
Agree 100%. Humanism all the way.
-
I meant
Right on, Celia.
-
AKA, I don't know why I keep engaging with you
Because you clearly do not understand where I'm coming from.
No, I don't object. I think she'd do a much better job than Reid.
-
Wait wait wait
No one here besides Bryan upset with KStone dropping the n-bomb?
So he can't say broad which is bad, except when it is in broadsheet. I bet he can't say bitch, which is bad unless it is Tina Fey saying it.
But the n-word, no problem.
I rest my case.
I don't want any part of the feminism that is about protecting weak vessels from the mean boyz. I can handle mean and I'll fight stupid. Can't reason with hypocrites though.
-
@BryanS
Now, it's shrillness, huh? It looks like you're still clutching your pearls. It's time to move on. We've beat this to death.
-
Cheers TRenee
I'm totally with you. Can't see how it is even marginally ok to suggest you would vote McCain to spite people- women, spefically on choice because your a feminist! It boggles!
By the fwiw I would love to see just about anyone replace Harry Reid. Hillary would be great for the job as long as she wouldn't exploit it to start the war with Iran that seems to be itching for.
-
@CeliaInSF
Your case rests on shaky ground. People aren't stupid. They knew what I was doing. Even BryanS knows, but tried to dodge the point by focusing on what you called the n-bomb. They also know that there's a big difference between my metaphor and someone here calling AKA Smith a cunt.
-
@ CeliaInSF
Celia, this isn't going to do you any good whatsoever on these boards, especially with the trolls that are circling around this one, so if you need to denounce and reject me for this, go right ahead. But that was a fantastic response, and I couldn't agree more with everything you just said.
I hate this goddamn fundamentalist feminism with a passion. It is to women's rights what Code Pink is to the anti-war movement, what the Nation of Islam is to the struggle against racism, and what the Earth Liberation Front is to environmentalism. It's the extreme, you're-with-us-or-you're-against-us fringe, and all it ever does is provide a convenient caricature for more moderate (and potentially successful) movements to be slandered with.
So, congratulations on getting kicked out of their club with the rest of us. I hope you wear that as a badge of honor.
-
Hey! How goes AKA's campaign
for the sorority of the insane?
-
The problem with November....
...will not be turncoat Dems who vote for McCain.
The problem will be the ones who don't vote.
-
@ Celia, again
Er, that was in response to your 2:22 post. Not that I didn't enjoy the others as well. :)
-
@ CeliaInSF
Am I on your shit list because I had the temerity to suggest you were being over sensitive in the McGovern thread yesterday?
Actually, I forgot all about that thread and didn't even follow up reading it.
There is a lot of sexism everywhere. I have experienced it and decried it. Just earlier in this very thread yesterday (back on page 9 so I don’t blame you if you missed that one), I decried it.
Well, that's good. What do you think of the sexism of BryanS?
I’ve told you before that I very much appreciate your writing ability. I’m really disappointed that you would wield your considerable skill in the service of such flimsy arguments, and such hateful vitriol.
The argument I am having here is prompted by Obama supporters who are trying to guilt-trip Clinton supporters by wielding the SCOTUS club.
Bros before hos t-shirts. Really? I think- thought?– you were better than that. I’ll chalk it up to being angry and let bygones be bygones but really, I don’t think verbally kicking, punching and spitting on women who disagree with you is a feminist move, but I digress….
Kicking? Punching? Spitting? Hyperbole much.
I can't help it that I write well. I am not going to apologize that I can land a verbal "punch."
All Obama supporters really need to say to Clinton supporters is "I realize that we have some pretty sexist people in our Obama camp who have insulted Clinton supporters by denigrating their sex and age. We understand perfectly that given the crap that you have had thrown at you that you may not want to vote for Obama."
"Point is, my solidarity is with humanity- not genitalia. If that’s not YOUR version of feminism then so be it."
Women first. I really believe that. It is not that I don't think that feminism should not support other just causes. It has and it does, but if the rights of women aren't considered first then the meaning of the cause is weakened.
I think the verbal jabs that you, KateTex (who is more than capable of dishing out some of the nastiest stuff on these boards) and Hillary Clinton herself, are nothing compared to the deaths, injuries, rapes, displacement and horrific conditions that real people in Iraq suffer because Hillary wanted to prove that SHE was as tough as the guys. If you want to take up a feminist argument- take it up with her.
Earlier you talked about bygones. However, you are a great grudge holder if you cannot see that Hillary Clinton is now as eager to extract us from that ill-considered war as Obama is. She has said why she voted as she did and that she expected negotiations to continue and that weapons inspections would be resumed. This nation elected George Bush twice. Lots of people were mistaken and fooled by him. He lied. He went to war on false pretenses and enlisted people that Americans trusted such as Colin Powell to sell his war.
If you want to keep this nation divided, if you want to make further wars likely, then keep harping on that meme -- for it won't bring us together, will it?
Yes feminism is a progressive cause and I’m all behind it. I just happen to think women in other countries are real people too and that their deaths and rapes matter as much as ours. Does this happen here- of course- and it needs to be stopped. But we certainly can’t clean up our own house by outsourcing our misery.
Feminism is concerned with women in other nations. When you are complicit with sexism, you defeat that cause.
Yet we allow our leaders to preemptively attack people who do not threaten us. And were threatening to doing it again in Iran. This is feminist?
It is presidential to talk a tough line concerning any nuclear aggression by Iran against Israel. What she said was clearly contingent upon such an attack. Obama has said he would invade Pakistan to get Bin Laden with or without that governments permission. Do you see that as extreme? You keep ignoring the fact that Obama in no peacenik.
I don’t think its right or fair or in any way appropriate to put the one progressive cause before another – to say it is more important to fight racism or sexism.
I would say that sexism, racism, and classism are equally important to counter.
Everyone with a conscience should be standing together deploring and countering these things. While it is disgusting that people here and in the media have attacked Hillary Clinton in a sexist manner I have not seen Obama or his campaign do the same – I wouldn’t support that.
You thought it was okay for Obama to say (paraphrasing here) that periodically when Clinton gets down the claws come out?
I have however, seen the Clinton campaign engage in racism or race-baiting if you prefer but have seen nothing but denials from her supporters on this front.
You cannot quote a single racist statement from either Bill or Hillary Clinton. It is Obama's people who were engaging in race baiting when they tried to allege the Clinton were racists. They are not racists.
That makes big difference to me too. So go ahead and kick me out of your feminism. I’ll stand with the humanists
I don't think you understand the historical meaning of the word humanist.
