  • KateTex finally gets something right

I instead referred to her statement to the effect that this is a mean, nasty country. And she did say something very close to this. Her further meaning was (as it has often been), that only her husband could save us from ourselves (oh, please). Is there really any use in denying that this is the kind of thing that sticks in the minds of voters - and turns them off?

Yes, bald faced lies and twisted paraphrases like yours do tend to stick in the minds of voters.

Like Gennifer Flowers and Paula Jones. They had a huge impact on the race. Bill Clinton lost, and George Bush Sr. got us into war with Bangladesh in his second term.

  • Why not be nice?

I can't think of anything Sen. Clinton could ask for that would be a problem for Sen. Obama. He won the prize. The rest is paperwork. If she drags this out, she makes Obama look like Dukakis begging Jesse Jackson for his blessing. The GOP is taking a standing eight-count. Their nominee has sold whatever soul he once had to keep the wing-nuts happy and is weak on the stump and in debates. Republican congressional candidates have been told their are on their own raising money. It's time to put that wretched party out of its misery. Obama can't lose this election. If Clinton gets greedy and continues to tell her supporters they have been "disenfranchised" she could make it hard for everyone. Adversity doesn't build character. It reveals it. Sen. Clinton, let's see what you're made of.

  • I know what I want...

...and I've been saying so for quite some time.

If Hillary is not going to be the nominee, then I hope that Obama (once elected, and facing an open seat on SCOTUS) will nominate her to the Supreme Court.

So many of the attributes that progressives like to criticize her for would be assets on the Court (judiciousness, consensus-seeking, etc.). Also, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is tired of being the only woman on the Court. [I'm tired of there being only one woman on the Court! Just consider their recent decision on pay equity.] Given Hillary's history of building relationships in the Senate, she should be able to pass through the confirmation hearing well enough. After all, it's not as if her "baggage" hasn't already been rummaged through by everyone with a passing interest already.

Other pluses: no more campaigning (i.e., no more having to pander to past the class/race/gender muster), no public role for Bill, at least not re: the Court, and she could be there a long time and create her own legacy, independent of YKW.

  • Hillary In The Supreme Court???

    Huh?

And she is more "worthy" of such a lofty position than anyone else?

Man, the Hillary supporters are really disconnected for reality.

They've built Hillary up to this towering figure with the world's most brilliant mind and yet....

20 of her 35 years of "experience" is just sitting around being married to Bill Clinton.

Giving Bill a spot on the Supreme Court -- maybe. But giving his wife a spot?

I'm just not seeing the connection. She was married to someone who accomplished things. That doesn't mean SHE actually acoomplished anything.

  • Bill lost his law license

I think that would disqualify him.

And last I heard, Hillary still has hers, and it used to be considered desirable to have someone on the court with some congressional experience.

  • Clinton CYnicism

A Major Platform Win. Namely, healthcare. Hillary needs to be able to make the case that her campaign had a substantive impact on the race. The best way to do that is to get to write the party's healthcare plank in the platform. If Obama folds on the mandate issue, Hillary walks away with a policy win. Plus, this would please John and Elizabeth Edwards. Choosing Elizabeth to write the healthcare plank of the platform could appease both camps."

-- I am a long time Clinton supporter and I am basically of the belief now that Clintons don't care a bit about the issues and never have. I think the conservatives were basically right about them all along in this respect. I thought both the gas tax position and the saber-rattling about Iran showed a breathtaking level of calculated cynicism on their part (the first time this occurred to me was the Lewinsky Cruise Missle Attack on Iraq but i let this pass at the time. Now I think my instincts were right and it really was called a distraction). I honestly think the Clintons are "Liberals" only because they have packaged themselves as such. I think, constitutionally, they were just as capable of being conservatives if they had seen a reason to adopt this package instead at the time they embarked on their political careers.

  • She wants to eat human braaaaaaiiiinnnnss

    I read it on Salon.

  • So much specualation

Why doe she need something. She is loosing. I think she is just being given the time to bow out gracefully. Hillary will still have a lot of power. After all it is the Senate that writes laws. Why should Obama pay her debt? Hillary and Bill have plenty of money. Besides I'm not sure it is legal. Is It? Many politicians have been in debt after elections. This is nothing new.

After what Sen. Dianne Feinstein said yesterday, I think she will talk to Hillary, then stand beside Hillary with the few other Senators who supported Hillary as she gracefully drops out and calls for party unity.

Considering her last failure with health care, I doubt Obama will have her head it up. He may have her be the lead sponsor on the health care legislation and lead the fight in the Senate to get it passed. That way she would still get some credit for it.

  • What does Hillary want?

Who knows but whatever she does, she should NOT listen to the majority of pundits or their wannabe brethren here who are doing a nice job of moving from attack troll mode to concern troll mode.

  • Supreme Court-NO

I think Obama will appoint Lawrence Tribe to the Supreme court when the next nominee comes up.

  • Consitituional Law

She would not be a good appointee for the Supreme court. Hillary has little experience and back ground in in constitutional law. She has never been judge, or a litigator, and she was corproate lawyer when she was an practicing attorney.
