    Look at it another way -- what does she lose by delay

    Your answer to your own question here shows that she loses quite a lot.

    I think it may be the law of diminishing returns here - maybe Obama should refuse to deal and let Hillary fade into an end.

    It would seem so. Obama has something to gain here by taking the high road and not letting himself get sucked into Hillary's pissing contest.

    Now try your question the other way: What does she gain by delay?

    The Democratic party leadership will be asking for her game plan today. They're rightly concerned that prolonging her candidacy and engaging in a smear campaign may be damaging to the Democratic party.

    Now we have a third question: Does she care? Only Mrs. Clinton can answer that.
