What would it take for Clinton to concede defeat? An insider remembers -- and draws lessons from -- the backroom deals that ended another brutal, racially charged Democratic slugfest.
  • Look at it another way -- what does she lose by delay

Right now Hillary has currency to bargain with -- she can pull out. In a few short weeks she is effectively out anyway. So anything she wants to get, she needs to look for now, especially if Obama would have good reasons not to give them later.

Assistance on her campaign debt -- why would Obama do that ... he will have an expensive campaign in November, and she is out of money.

Senate majority leader -- oh dear. First, she seems increasingly unloved by her fellow Senators, Second, Obama could have a real problem with a Senate majority leader with an eye on his job.

Veto power over a VP candidate -- what so she can use it to block a strong VP candidate, which most likely means blocking a woman?

I think it may be the law of diminishing returns here - maybe Obama should refuse to deal and let Hillary fade into an end.
