AKA Smith
Where to begin?
Am I on your shit list because I had the temerity to suggest you were being over sensitive in the McGovern thread yesterday?
There is a lot of sexism everywhere. I have experienced it and decried it. Just earlier in this very thread yesterday (back on page 9 so I don’t blame you if you missed that one), I decried it.
I’ve told you before that I very much appreciate your writing ability. I’m really disappointed that you would wield your considerable skill in the service of such flimsy arguments, and such hateful vitriol.
Bros before hos t-shirts. Really? I think- thought?– you were better than that. I’ll chalk it up to being angry and let bygones be bygones but really, I don’t think verbally kicking, punching and spitting on women who disagree with you is a feminist move, but I digress….
Point is, my solidarity is with humanity- not genitalia. If that’s not YOUR version of feminism then so be it. I think the verbal jabs that you, KateTex (who is more than capable of dishing out some of the nastiest stuff on these boards) and Hillary Clinton herself, are nothing compared to the deaths, injuries, rapes, displacement and horrific conditions that real people in Iraq suffer because Hillary wanted to prove that SHE was as tough as the guys. If you want to take up a feminist argument- take it up with her.
Yes feminism is a progressive cause and I’m all behind it. I just happen to think women in other countries are real people too and that their deaths and rapes matter as much as ours. Does this happen here- of course- and it needs to be stopped. But we certainly can’t clean up our own house by outsourcing our misery.
Another point on the war matters so- it depletes our resources and drives up the cost of everything- resulting in – more poverty, more hunger, more homelessness. The first two which disproportionately affect women and children- all of which should be unconscionable in our society. Yet we allow our leaders to preemptively attack people who do not threaten us. And were threatening to doing it again in Iran. This is feminist?
I don’t think its right or fair or in any way appropriate to put the one progressive cause before another – to say it is more important to fight racism or sexism. Everyone with a conscience should be standing together deploring and countering these things. While it is disgusting that people here and in the media have attacked Hillary Clinton in a sexist manner I have not seen Obama or his campaign do the same – I wouldn’t support that. I have however, seen the Clinton campaign engage in racism or race-baiting if you prefer but have seen nothing but denials from her supporters on this front. That makes big difference to me too. So go ahead and kick me out of your feminism. I’ll stand with the humanists who think its deplorable to wantonly drop bombs on peoples heads, no matter whether they are men, women, children or babies – no matter the color of their skin- no matter who or what they do or don’t pray to- whatever- they’re all humans to me.
