Jeebus. How long before someone with a little clout and credibility says "wrong question, wrong answer"? How long?
Because this bullshit is just that. It's all bullshit.
Maybe Obama is simply calling Clinton out on an obvious pander. Maybe Obama pandered himself. There's a big, fat surprise. Does Mr. Frost think we all fell out of a vegetable truck yesterday? Jeebus.
Of *course* Obama has pandered in his career. How could he not? He knows a pander when he hears it, and just as Clinton is being a hack opportunist, Obama is calling her on it.
Even if Frost's analysis is largely correct (and I'll take leave to be dubious), the entire discussion makes my teeth hurt.
We're facing the end of oil. The end of cheap oil first, then the end of oil period. And soon. In most of our lifetimes. Most boomers will be in their dotage at the exact moment the bill really comes due, and a century of partying is followed by a tortured, violent hangover. If we're lucky, that's all it'll be. If we're unlucky....die-off.
And all our candidates can talk about is some fucking cents-on-the-gallon gas tax! Christ almighty. What is WRONG with everyone? Other than an addiction to pandering and/or grotesque ignorance about our actual situation.
I am so sick of this shit. Even if Obama engaged in the same pander 8 years ago, I'm glad he's calling Clinton out on this one. Even if he is, in his way, being as opportunistic as she is.
Lifting the gas tax for the Summer is not going to help. Even if Frost is right. It's like putting sand-bags up in front of your beach-front home as the water recedes before a 100-foot tsunami. It's bullshit.
and I am tired to death of this kind of bullshit. Just tired to death. And the fact that our MSM is shoveling it as fast as the candidates are just makes things worse.
I think the thing that bugs me the most is how obvious it is that Clinton and McCain are certain we are all a bunch of idiots. Barely sentient enough to tie our shoes. The savage contempt they show in their public statements to the Voters is enough to burn your eyes and induce nausea.
At least Obama doesn't display this level of cynical contempt. Maybe he feels it, but he hides it better.
Salon, you need to get Jay Hanson to write an essay for you. On the topic of fossil-fuels, yeast-population-curves, and die-off. It would be a suitable antidote to this pollyanna shit from guys like Frost.
