Hillary's missteps are legion, but both candidates are flesh and blood, and their squandered opportunities have prolonged the race.

  • He looks to the past.

A much overlooked reason why Obama's style has gone stale is that his rhetoric about her how HRC voted for the war is essentially about the past. Hillary, in talking about moving the troops out of Iraq, does not dwell on the past (the reason for the war and the vote to enable it may indeed have been wrong), but looks to the present and the future.

She talks about how to bring the troops back with dignity and how to take care of the vets when they return. But Obama now sounds like a nagging spouse who keeps saying 'why did she vote for the war?' Sure, he says he'll withdraw the troops within 16 months but then, Powers, his Adviser told the BBC that this was just campaign talk. Just like his mentor, Rev. Wright, has now told us that his Race Speech of March 18, which the Press raved about, was just 'politicians' talk.

  • Jeremiah Wright is a red herring like WMD

Why is Obama so fiercely hounded by the media for his association with an AMERICAN pastor who is a former United States Marine and has been a dedicated public servant for over 40 years (despite holding some unpopular political opinions)?

Similarly, why hasn't the media given the same attention to the Bush family's connections with the bin Ladens and Saudi Arabia?

Think about it people! This is just another right-wing scare tactic and people like Proudtekhasgirl are mouthing their insipid and insulting tactics when she posts letters using Obama's middle name as an epithet. To hell with them all!

    Don't get fooled again!

  • @Baloo

Why is Obama so fiercely hounded by the media for his association with an AMERICAN pastor who is a former United States Marine and has been a dedicated public servant for over 40 years (despite holding some unpopular political opinions)?

to be blunt with you, a better question is why are YOU insisting upon foisting a character that obviously is going to be rejected in November?

Guess Obama's support nuts hadn't had enough of the left yet. I can forgive idiotic groups like Air America and Moveon. They EXIST to whine and to play permanent loyal opposition to the Republican majority.

But for thinking people suffering the way people are today, there was just no excuse for everyone not to rally behind Mrs. Clinton. And if they had, today she'd be 30 points ahead of John McCain.

This isn't about Obama dude. Obama can fight his own battles. This is about being fed-up with the media, including Salon, who suck the dicks of corporate interests and give a pass to the Bush administration for lieing us into an unnecessary war and then hound Obama about his pastor, a man who is by any standard an upright American citizen. I mean for God's sake, Ron Paul ran for president and he had virtually the same message. Noam Chomsky is a Jew, a professor at MIT, an American dissident, and in my book a patriot. He has said much worse than Jeremiah Wright and it's all true to one extent or another.

I'm not black. I'm a caucasian immigrant to this country and I've lived here since I was 8 years old. I'm sick and tired of the media playing dumb and playing down to the American people. I'm a fucking American too and I can't stomach all the shit that goes on and the media just overlooks it all like it's fucking okay that we killed 500,000 Iraqis for no fucking reason whatsoever but to rape the American taxpayer.

So wake the fuck up, please!

  • Follow up: so THAT'S her energy policy?????

Hillary has now come out in favor of McCain's gas-tax holiday, which is an incredibly short-sighted, counter-productive and stupid idea, as Salon recently explained.

So that's her energy policy? Stop the source of public funding that's needed to repair crumbling bridges and provide other essential transporation maintenance, while flinging around ridiculous accusations about a (non-existent) Big Oil conspiracy to increase gasoline prices?

Anyone with an iota of knowledge about the energy industry knows this approach is stupid, stupid, stupid. The really disappointing thing is: Hillary knows it, too. But she's promoting this idea in an effort to pander to ignorance.

Good on Obama for rejecting the pander approach here.

  • STARTING WITH A FLAWED ASSUMPTION

Your article starts with the flawed assumption that both candidates started on an equal footing. This is not true. Hillary Clinton started as the presumptive nominee, with the entire Democratic establishment and the Clinton machine behind her. Obama started with a message, very little money and almost none of the establishment behind him.

Hillary's wins almost all came - until recently - because she was the presumptive nominee of the party. She was, by her own words, inevitable, but she would allow the formality of a vote. No one seemed capable of dethroning her.

As Barack emerged in Iowa and South Carolina - many including me - wondered what was going on. The Edwards dropped out of the race and Obama went on to 14 straight victories. When he lost, it was by very narrow margins. When he won, his margins were often stunning.

Still, the establishment stayed in Hillary's corner, with very few defectors emerging. Privately there were rumblings, and some super delegates revealed the Clintons were threatening any defectors would be brutally punished.

The problem with the democrats has always been a lack of balls and backbone. The Super Delegates tremble in the wings, not wanting to make a decision. Hillary who does not have a snow balls chance in hell of winning legitimately has begun new math: only large states she has won should be counted. Primaries that wer enot sanctioned, and where Obama's name was not even on the ballot should be counted. Women voters should get reparations...

Except on NPR, there has been little mention of the voter fraud in New York State. No votes for Obama in Harlem, for example. Really? No blacks voted for Obama in Harlem. Interesting - especially since tens of thousands say they did. Shades of another Bush Presidency - this time in a pant suit.

Look, Hillary is a proven pathological liar, as is her charming if daffy husband. Haven;t we had enough of lies and liars? I came late to the Obama Campaign, but knowing Hillary and McCain as well as I do, he is the only hope America has left. For me, that makes his campaign close to inevitable.

  • "Barry, we hardly knew ya...."

Barrack Obama wants to be our President. His qualifications for that job are exactly “0”…..that’s like Zero.

“He was a street organizer!” chirp his adoring Bombettes. Now ask them if any of them know what a “street organizer” is? …….crickets. Thought so. …….. Answer…..Al Sharpton

“He was President of the Harvard Law Review!” shout the throngs.{ In 1990, Obama became the first black president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review, a position that usually falls to the student “WITH THE SHARPEST ELBOWS……” Wash. Post, Jan. 2007.} Anyone who knows Harvard knows “first” = token. And, of course, while at Harvard (on a legacy admission, his father) he showed his incredible empathy “for regular folk”…..” And dinner, most nights, was at the C'est Bon sandwich shop in Harvard Square, not the rubber-chicken circuit…….” He could charm the panties off Mother Theresa….and never move a finger.

Right about that time, talent like that couldn’t remain in a vacuum for long; “We need you, we long for you, we want you,” was the cry that filled the air. Luckily, the first to get a whiff of this new phenom was the statesman, heir to Dr. Albert Schweitzer, and three card Monty entrepanour, Big Tony Rezco. For purely altruistic reasons (Obama was an orphan, after all) Big Tony quickly adopted his new son, opened his wallet, and financed every election young Barrack ran in. With his Harvard law degree (and Big Tony’s ethics) tucked under his arm, he didn’t have to win any elections; all his opponents mysteriously were found to have used the comma inappropriately in their applications, and were disqualified. (Who said a Harvard Law Degree was worthless.)

After being given the opportunity to give a speech at the 2004 convention; he was on fire. There was no stopping him now. At the behest of Washington’s Presidential Losers Brigade, who were more afraid of a powerful, experienced, and independent, woman than an almost black Halle Barre look-a-like without a pubic hair of experience, he ran for the Senate. He won in a squeaker (70%) against his Republican victim, the blithering idiot, certifiably insane, Alan Keyes.( I heard Mr. Keyes is demanding a recount, as this is the closest he’s ever come in an election.)

    “Senator Obama goes to Washington”

    When Part 2 continues………….
